LeiLani Hartley joined the U.S. Army after a very brief term in the Air Force, because the Army was geared more towards goals of being a fit female in the military . The promotion and opportunity rate was greater than they ever were before. Since joining the Army she has had the #opportunities to do things that she would have never dreamed about. She has been to Air Assault School, was one of the only #Pathfinder qualified females (or males for that matter) in her MOS ( #92W - #WaterTreatmentSpecialist). She attended #RangerSchool in 2015. She has been an Basic Life Support Instructor, one of the first to earn the instructor badge and #AIT PSG. She has made numerous Commandants lists & has been the Iron Soldier in a few schools as well. I keep this folded flag because, the day before I shipped out to basic training my dad, 2nd Ranger Battalion, folded this flag together, he explained to me that his flag represents more than a symbol of America, or Freedom, or anything that makes this country great. It is to remind me every day once I took that oath of enlistment, that flag now represents those that came before me, those that are serving with me, and Jose that will serve in the future. You will be a part of something bigger than yourself. My grand father served in Korea as an engineer with the phantom fighter jets we had there at the time. My Father served in the 80's with the Rangers (classified) And I have taken the torch and I have served my duty to my county as a Combat Medic. Honoring those that came before me, honoring those I served with and to help lay the ground work for those future generations of soldiers . My flag means a lot more to me than just my Country's flag. It reminds me that i am now a part of something and making sure all my guys made it home.

92W - Water Treatment Specialist

              The health and well-being of Army communities is a major concern. Maintaining Army work places and living areas in a sanitary and safe fashion helps to prevent illness. As an important member of the environmental health and safety team, Water Treatment Specialists inspect facilities and food supplies for the presence of disease, germs or other conditions hazardous to health and the environment. Water Treatment Specialists are primarily responsible for supervising or performing the installation and operation of water purification equipment, as well as dealing with water storage and distribution operations and activities. Some of your duties as a Water Treatment Specialist may include:

Assist in water reconnaissance, site preparation

Assist in setup of water treatment activity

Operate and maintain water treatment equipment

Receive, issue, and store potable water

Perform water quality analysis testing and verification

Training

Job training for a Water Treatment Specialist requires nine weeks of Basic Training, where you'll learn basic Soldiering skills, and 14 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in testing different products. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Some of the skills you'll learn are:

Identification of health hazards

Inspection of food products and food service operations

Inspection of wastewater and waste disposal facilities

The Army offers certified apprenticeship programs for some specialties in this occupation.

Helpful attributes include:

An interest in algebra, biology, chemistry and general science

An interest in gathering information

A preference for work requiring attention to detail

An interest in protecting the environment

Advanced Responsibilities

Advanced level Water Treatment Specialist provides guidance, supervises and trains other Soldiers within the same discipline. As an advanced level Water Treatment Specialist, you may be involved in:

Conduct water reconnaissance

Develop water sources and water points

Supervise and train soldiers to perform water treatment tasks

Perform operator maintenance and inspecting operational condition and maintenance of equipment

Determine treatment method and treating water for purification

Analyze and verify test results of raw and treated water

Maintain and inventory water treatment equipment and chemical supplies

Prepare water treatment reports
