Feanor is still in Mandos. He’ll stay there forever or until the end of days.

Do we have any evidence he was ever there in the first place? Mandos telling the living Elves that he’s very sure Feanor will never reform enough to be reembodied, not in a million years, sure sounds awful convenient. And not the kind of thing Mandos would normally say, since he views his job as rehabilitation. He might just be lying.

Dead Elves usually obey the summons to the West because of 1) legitimate authority, or 2) fear of Dark Lord. Well, Feanor doesn’t think the Valar have any legitimate authority, and he ain’t afraid of dark lords. He might even think he can’t go to Mandos, because he Swore an Oath and can’t give up just because trying to influence things while bodiless is illegal.

There’s not a whole lot we can do with this. If Feanor stuck around, he clearly didn’t succeed in helping much. But if you want to go dark with it, maybe that’s why Curufin and Celebrimbor are so similar to him. He’s possessing them.
