If you don’t mind… because idk why it’s always on my mind, but like Reo but you guys broke up and he’s trying everything he can to win you back
And some angst for the road!
a/n: oh this trope is to die for
ac goes to Coul__ i believe...
reo mikage never thought there would come a day when you wouldn’t be his.
he thought your love was permanent, like the way the sun always rose. he thought your laughter would always fill the quietest corners of his penthouse, thought your toothbrush would always sit next to his, thought your hand would always reach for his when the city lights blurred beneath the car windows.
the argument had been messy – tears, raised voices, his stubbornness, your exhaustion. you told him you were tired of being second to his ambition, tired of him thinking money and grand gestures could fix the little things he forgot. you wanted presence, not presents. and when he swore he could change, you told him it was too late.
now, reo is standing outside your apartment like some lovesick fool, holding a bouquet so big it looks like it could smother him. he rehearsed what he’d say in the car mirror: apologies, promises, something heartfelt that wouldn’t sound rehearsed. but when you open the door, messy hair and that guarded look in your eyes, all that comes out is –
you cross your arms. “reo.”
just your voice makes his chest ache. “i know i shouldn’t be here. i know i probably burned this bridge. but i… i can’t stop thinking about you. i can’t stop wanting to fix this.”
“reo, we’ve talked about this.” your tone is firm, but it trembles at the edges. “you can’t just throw flowers at the problem.”
he flinches, glancing at the bouquet, then drops it on the floor like it’s meaningless. “then forget the flowers. forget the money. i’ll show up at every stupid grocery run. i’ll sit through all your favorite movies even when i don’t understand them. i’ll remember every little thing that makes you smile. i don’t care if it takes weeks or months – i’ll earn you back.”
your silence is heavy, your eyes searching his face like you’re trying to find the sincerity in him.
he steps closer, desperate now. “i’m not asking you to take me back tonight. i just… i want a chance to prove that i can be the reo you deserve. please. just one more chance.”
you should slam the door. you should remind him of every late night he chose business calls over you, every birthday he nearly forgot, every “i love you” that sounded like an afterthought.
but then his hand reaches out, hesitant, fingers brushing yours. and you remember how that hand once steadied you when you tripped, how it once held you under city fireworks, how it once fit so perfectly in yours.
your breath catches. “… you don’t get unlimited chances, reo.”
his heart stutters. “i know. but even if i only get one more, i’ll spend it proving you were right to give it.”
and for the first time since the breakup, you let him see the tiniest crack in your armor – a small, shaky smile.
reo thinks maybe the sun is rising again.
