Something I’ve been thinking about is how people talk about the idea of “whose life is on the line” when it comes to Robert and Aaron. For me, it’s not really about putting Robert in danger just for the sake of it — it’s about finally giving Aaron the chance to save him. Robert has technically saved Aaron’s life three times, but Aaron’s moments of saving Robert have been smaller and quieter: pulling him away from Cain, calling out to him when he flatlined in the hospital, and calling the ambulance during the carbon monoxide poisoning.

Even then, the way those episodes were presented never truly made Robert’s life the focus — it was more about Aaron’s emotional response, his guilt, or the wider chaos surrounding them. Even the episode where Robert was hit by the car and flatlined, which did centre on him, wasn’t really about his life being in danger; it was about him confronting how his actions affected people, learning that he might love Aaron deeply but that wanting him back doesn’t necessarily mean it’s what’s best for him. Robert’s vulnerability in that moment came from letting Aaron go — it was emotional, not physical.

That’s why it would feel so different now to see Robert’s life physically at risk, with the story focused on Aaron fighting to save him — not out of guilt or morality, but out of love, urgency, and connection. It would finally shift the emotional centre in a way we’ve never seen before.
