Disassociation culture is no one actually thinking that you have a mental illness and that you just need to "snap out of it"

So tell me if I'm crazy or just "too woke" for thinking this, but,

My school has remodeled a few things recently. One thing that's been a big talk but never done is the auditorium. The REASON they haven't done anything is because if they remodeled it, they would have to change the seating to provide spaces for wheelchairs as per local laws regarding disabilities

The complaint is "we would lose seating, we already don't have enough!!"

This is honestly insane to me for the fact that they're refusing to provide accommodations to disabled people because it inconveniences them. I don't go to a big school, mind you. We don't need a ridiculous amount of seats. There's only a couple hundred students 7-12th.

We also have disabled people IN OUR SCHOOL. Multiple of them! There's one kid who uses a wheelchair, and anything in the auditorium that he goes to they just keep him in the aisle!! And it's sloped so someone has to hold his wheelchair so he doesn't roll away and hit the stage.

The fact that they treat disability accommodations like an inconvenience is insane. They talk about it like this law is oh-so-horrid and just such a problem. You know what's inconvenient? Not having a place to sit because you're a wheelchair user...

I feel like this is ableism at it's finest, whether the intent is malicious or not.

According to Tumblr, ableism is whenever someone uses a word that can potentially hurt your feelings, no matter the context or intent. However, actual issues such as: discrimination based on disabilities (such as not being hired for a job based solely on the fact of you having a disability), movement restrictions due to a severe lack of handicap ramps, actual social stigmas associated with disabilities (and no, being called lame doesn't count), and disabled voices being spoken over by high-functioning disabled people who police what they're allowed to be offended over and speaking on behalf of them. These are all problems that no one ever seems to want to talk about, and instead obsess over that one time that one person said the word "dumb" when talking about their own fucking intelligence.

On the people refusing mental illness post, I see where you're coming from, but I thibk what the OP is trying to say is people who claim to have some mental issue when they really don't and they don't check for it. Yeah, I don't know why but some people do it to be special or cool or something really mental health issues don't make you edgy or cool.

I know exactly where the OP is coming from, which is why I think it’s complete bullshit.

I give no shits about people who go around policing people who self-dox. All that does is discourage people from identifying their mental disabilities because they can’t get an ~official~ diagnoses and therefore delaying their ability to find help, even though unofficial sources.
