Favorite Instrument: the ukulele is the easiest for me to play! i’ve had my guitar since middle school though, and i’m taking keyboard classes in college.

Favorite Author: this is harrrd. i wish i had more time to read these days. :( lemony snicket was extremely influential for me for the majority of my life and for a recent read, kevin kwan’s crazy rich asians trilogy is hysterical. 

Favorite Animal Noise: the lil satisfied grunt noises my dog makes when he’s all settled :-) 

Random: i’m a remote learner this semester and i miss my friends on campus an awful lot. i also might be getting a new car this weekend after mine has been out of commission for about a month now so that’s really exciting!

How do you feel during Love?

You are the air we breathe, important but largely unnoticed.

Only the most gentle in spirit will take the time to appreciate you, for most do not think about how much they love the air, they just do. You are fickle at times, and largely indecisive, but you give life in every possible way that you can. Try not to feel that the way you are underappreciated is your fault. It is not. You have simply been too good for too long, and you have made everybody comfortable.

April 22: What are some social rules that do not make sense to you/that you don’t understand?

Shaking hands / “proper” greetings. I don’t get it. Just say “hello”. Things like “nice to meet you”, “good to see you again”, etc are hollow.

Not cutting people off when they’re speaking. This makes sense to me because it’s seen as rude, but I can’t help not doing it or I’m not focused on what the other person is saying.

Receiving compliments. I don’t know how to do it and usually just akwardly chuckle.

Not laughing / joking about serious things. I awkwardly chuckle when bad things happen. I know I shouldn’t and a lot of times I don’t find the thing funny, but my brain goes, “OH THAT’S BAD... LAUGH”

Making eye contact. Why is this needed? People have made it so that it’s a requirement as a sign of trust and psychologists say people are usually lying when they don’t make eye contact, but why? It doesn’t make sense. There are a lot of other cues that indicate lying and mistrust when eye contact is actually not that high up. Not to mention everyone has a different idea of what eye contact is supposed to look like.

Cooperation. Why do I need to do what others tell me? Do they know me?

I ran away with the circus

No, literally. I did.

I can’t remember where I was when I last updated people, but my last year has been Something. A quick run-down:

I graduated in May of 2017 and moved to Portland, OR a couple months later. In hindsight, this was a Mistake - I dislike Oregon as a place to live because the culture there is about equal parts racism, hypocrisy, and white hippiedom - but it did give me some valuable firsts.

My first apartment - a bust.

My first job - success.

My first time finding, vetting, and moving into an apartment of my own choosing - success. I’ll miss that second apartment and have only fond memories of it. Thanks, Beaverton, OR.

Now, about that first job... it was as an usher with KURIOS by Cirque Du Soleil. And I loved it. The energy of the place, the performance, the performers, the guests... I loved working there. It was the highlight of my days, when I didn’t get to hike with Matchi. When I got to hike AND work, well, damn, that was a great day.

I was good at it. They let me follow - I just couldn’t go with Kurios, because it was leaving the country (first to Vancouver, BC, Canada, then on to Japan). So I jumped ship for VOLTA, Cirque’s newest show under the Big Top.

First U.S. city? Miami, FL.

I’m in Miami, now.

It’s humid and doesn’t feel like winter and oh my god if I see one more person put on a sweater and start “shivering” at 70 degrees F, I MIGHT blow a gasket, but the biggest issue I have is that I don’t have Matchi with me. I made the call that this place would be too hot for her - and I was right - so she’s with my parents in Chico, CA.

“I miss her tremendously” doesn’t even come close - she is my heart, and I feel itchy and wrong-footed and a little wounded without her. The goal is to have her with me starting with our third city, which will be somewhere in New Jersey.

As for Volta itself - I like it. A lot. The music is rad, the performance is rad, and it’s going to have some changes soon, because it’s still being built. There’s something... different, to being with a show that’s so new it hasn’t settled into itself yet. It feels like home, though, as much as any place can when Matchi isn’t here to share it with me.

So. Yeah. I ran away with the Circus. I’ll keep running as long as they let me.
