Current headcanons for Lauren Elyse McCarthy

Lo often runs her fingers through her hair when she gets nervous or uncomfortable - she will also bite her lip when trying to think of a way to get out of an uncomfortable situation.
When frustrated, angry, or any emotion other than her usual ‘fine’, Lauren works out twice in a day. It’s her biggest stress relief.
Having spent four years abroad, Lauren often wears things she purchased from her travels (most notably jewelry).
After traveling to India about 8 years ago, Lauren became a vegan and has not eaten an animal product since. This is something she’s really passionate about from a health, environmental, and human rights standpoint.
Lauren has a very raspy, low voice (think: Sophia Bush) and it’s even worse in the morning, sometimes taking over an hour to adjust to being awake.
Speaking of the morning, it’s Lo’s favorite time of day. Her and Eva sit on their patio and drink their coffee, sharing the newspaper while the dogs play.
★ Tequila is her alcoholic preference, though she rarely drinks it. Her go to drink is a Gin + Tonic or red wine.
Trader Joe’s is Lauren’s favorite store - she will tell you that time and time again. Cheap wine, amazing food - what more could you want?
One time she got bangs and cried afterwards. She still says this is the worst decision she ever made. She now wears her hair just at her shoulders with blonde bayalage at the ends.
★ Lauren has a hard time expressing any and all feelings. Whether they are negative, positive, or even neutral, she just doesn’t know how to express them. That being said, she leads people on a lot and often seems like she is indifferent or mysterious, but honestly just can’t make the words.
Chicago PD was her life when she was on it and sometimes still is. She misses her cast members. (This is also where Lauren met MJ - they starred in an entire season together before MJ’s character was killed.)
Lauren generally wears lingerie underneath all of her clothing. This stems from always wanting to feel sexy and never wanting to be ill prepared.
Her favorite food is a vegan sandwich with red onion on it - literally any vegan sandwich as long as there’s red onion.
Because of her experience with her agent, Lauren has become a huge human/women’s rights activist. She speaks at a lot of events and goes to a lot of press meetings about these topics.
Lo’s dimples are something she often finds herself using her hands to cover in embarrassment. They are very apparent and she is somewhat self conscious about it.
★ Lauren wants children. Now. And her biological clock is ticking. She hardly tells anyone about this.

To say the least, family has been hard for Lauren.
She and her father are exceptionally close. They talk on the phone at least once a week and email each other about places they’d like to travel to and videos that inspire them. They’re practically two peas in a pod. He has never once made her feel like she’s less because she isn’t musically talented.
Lauren and her mother do not get along. She blames the woman for a lot of her issues with expressing her feelings and just doesn’t know how to get along with her.
Loretta and Lauren have different views of their relationship. Lauren doesn’t like Loretta and never has - something she feels inherently bad about. They’re very different people and even though they look alike, Lo can’t find a common thread.
Lauren feels protective over Ky, but wants to see him grow up and take charge of his own life.

The three dogs that Lo owns are Taos (Griffin), Kenya (Penny), and Ro (Frankie). (Sophia’s dogs are the parentheses and coordinating faces.) They were all adopted and Lauren is more than obsessed with them.
★ Taos is named after Taos, New Mexico where she decided she needed to take some time to herself and travel the world. Kenya is named after the African country where she decided to return from her 4 year journey. Roosevelt (Ro) is the street on which Lauren and MJ acted together for the first time.
