hey sorry that one person was a dick about your pronouns when you posted your selfies. i thought they were great and screw transphobia
thank you! that’s sweet of you to say. i’m not too fussed about it since the person in question is 14 and identifies as anti-just-about-everything, so their opinion doesn’t mean much, but the support of others against transphobia means a lot, so thanks (:
Pro tip to cis ppl who might not know this: when you are talking to someone that is trans (or anyone, really), don't ask about whether their name was self-chosen?? I think most people can figure that it's rude to say that whatever name someone uses isn't their "real" name, but this also counts for prying about whether it's legal, whether it's family-given, what documents it appears on, et cetera. When you do that, what you're actually doing is drawing a distinction between legal/given names and chosen names, which means that to a trans person, you're saying that it doesn't hold the same legitimacy/role as a "real"/original name—not to mention serving as an unwelcome reminder of the abandoned original name in the first place. Everyone's different and not every person in the world will be offended by this, but you can avoid a lot of damage by just training yourself not to ask.
how do you pronounce your pronouns? is it like xe in xenophobia or xe like in xerox or something else entirely?
I mean... yes? The x sound is just, how you say any word that starts with an X, like Xander or Xena. Some people slur it into a ‘z,’ some people pronounce the full ‘ks’ sound. Either is valid. And the “xe” rhymes with, like, “ye”? As in, Ye Olde Pronouns.
I have a little longer explanation of the consonant sound (for a similar set) here.
Hope this helps!
got first e-mail reply about pronouns and turns out that prof isnt really the prof, but she’s gonna forward it to the actual professor, and told me my e-mail was very helpful and that it showed ‘great leadership.’
+20 points to slytherin for obnoxiously long, thorough, and no-nonsense name/pronoun letters
You don't just transtrend, you started the transtrend.
I'm the trendiest trans
do you conjugate verbs with xe/xem/xyrs pronouns the way you do with they/them/theirs (xe are) or the way you do with he/him/his (xe is)?
The latter! Xe/xem is a singular pronoun set so it functions grammatically like other singular pronouns. So, it would go:
"Xe is blonde"
"Xe has a new pair of sunglasses"
"Xe was walking down the street"
