so w/ ranch ramblins...

the bnb has a spa area which is moooostly where hana is- she does like, hair and makeup primarily. doesn’t really do farmwork. she has a bit of a playful rivalry with karura and chikti, because they’re easy to tease and funny. she and fen have and off-and-on pale-to-red relationship that’s been going on for sweeps. hana and fen are close to 20 sweeps, so they’re older than most workers on the ranch.

fen’s the serious, stoic type. he’s not super talkative but isn’t like, super standoffish? he just doesn’t have a lot to say most of the time. he largely acts as security... (i was just lazy with his outfit...) he is known to have Bad mood swings every so often where he gets real aggressive but usually it only lasts like, 1 night n then he’s back to normal. :3c

adri is a troublemaker!! he likes to push buttons and test the limits on what all he can get away with. acts like a total ditz when he’s actually very intelligent. he helps wenden with cleaning the bnb rooms n such.

thisle works the apiary bc i cannot believe i forgot?? about apiaries??? wtf?? anyway she’s a rough ‘n tumble sorta girl, tomboyish appearance but she does like feminine things she just uh. doesn’t Get how to do that. she’s usually got dirt/grass stains on her clothes n such.

they didn’t actually know each other until rho brought them in! they are both 11 sweeps old. this is prolly gonna read weird in terms of chronological order but y’know?? i’m mostly writing stream of consciousness so it works.

chikti’s land like, sat right up against the nidori twins’ and she wasn’t really farming but ppl came to her pretty often for eggs since.. well... she has a lot of chickens. chikti’s all about the easy life- in terms of not having to think too hard. she’s not interested in trying to push back against anything, content to be where she is in the general system of things since it does the thinking for her, sort of. when rho approached her with the offer she signed on without batting an eye at the contract, but she also... legitimately doesn’t care ‘cause that’s just! not for her to think about! 

she does sometimes wish she’d read things a bit tho ‘cause rho saddled her with a lot of work and managing quotas ‘n counting things is just. so. much. she often slacks off on her duties in favor of just chatting up the other residents instead. that’s way more interesting. chikti is arguably the most social troll of the group and talks to everyone at least once a day- even the skittish ones that don’t like her too much.

chikti is especially fond of hydero, they’re basically glued at the hips.

hydero’s lil lake area was on the other side of this whole lil area that Rho had acquired thus far- so she’d never come into contact with the others. Since chikti was another bird person, rho had her relocate closer to hyde’s area once she was all signed on. hyde’s pretty quiet and a bit shy, so it took her a bit to warm up to chikti, but she really admires her extroverted personality.

hyde hadn’t yet started using she/her pronouns until after getting close to chikti. with chikti’s encouragement she started asserting those pronouns with the others- not that she really had to assert much (rho took a l o n g time to switch bc he just... doesn’t care.) since the rest of the residents are like, decent people (again, minus rho.....). 

hyde typically dresses in clothes that cover her up mostly, since that’s what made her comfortable before, but with chikti’s encouraging she’s starting to branch out to more styles. chikti’s general aesthetic is ‘less is best’.... hyde’s still too shy to do that but she wishes she had the nerve chikti has ahaha.

chikti doesn’t really use her allowance since like, anything she’d want is provided through the general orders the group places. she usually just gives it to hyde, who in turn spends it on.. what’s probably sketchy hormone therapy (again, she’s a lowblood so i imagine it’d be Hard to get legit services....). it makes her happy tho and chikti’s happy she can help that way.

hyde was acquired much the same way that chikti was just.. not as easily. rho made an offer, but hyde actually cares about things and read the contract. she had initially refused, but through a convenient set of events that involved a couple near-death experiences she ended up signing on when rho sent a reminder offer that mentioned added security. she’s pretty much certain he was behind the incidents (and he was) but without any proof or funds to fight in the legal system against a cerulean... well... she figured it was better to sign everything over than risk ending up dead and him getting the land anyway.

besides, she could leave any time anyway? she says for chikti tho. they ended up forming a moirallegiance after about a sweep - hyde keeps chikti on track and helps her focus and chikti helps hyde come out of her shell.

where ever chikti goes, hyde is pretty much guaranteed to be there, even if she’s not in sight. she has a tendency to follow people around (much like a duckling...) if she likes them and since she likes chikti best.. well. that’s obvious. sometimes she’s just following to try ‘n get chikti back on track and get her chores done, though.

guess what its peachi time

Peachi is 12 sweeps, and sits on a weird part of the spectrum where her blood color could?? be unnatural? so she’s always been pretty careful about how she interacts with other people. She’s very much a Mom Friend tho. always lookin out for others, p much has what you need exactly when you need it.

at least that was before Rho bought out her operation.

she doesn’t have the biggest plot of land, being a redblood, but it was in the area he had his sights set on, so he approached her with the offer when she was around 8. peachi is highly hemoloyal so she pretty much signed on without questioning anything. it wasn’t that she was on hard times or anything, she just... didn’t want to question a blueblood.

since signing on he’s redone her entire area. peachi’s land is pretty much dead center to the larger ranch, so her hive ended up getting renovated to make room for the larger common hive. she wasn’t super pleased with it but again, not going to question a highblood.

she primarily handles meals on the ranch, for literally everyone. she does have helpers in the kitchen but peachi’s in charge of making the menu and ensuring everything gets done On Time. she does like that, at least. since her job is so time consuming, she rarely ventures out of the center of the properties. she hasn’t actually left the ranch at all in four sweeps.

she’s pretty easy to fluster, but laughs things off pretty fast. she’s also very, very hard to anger. in fact no one has actually seen her angry? its a bit strange. a lot of the ranch residents have odd things about them- peachi’s is that she generates a lot of heat, even for a redblood. prolonged contact either goes one of two ways: the person overheats and wants to leave Immediately... or they get really fuzzyheaded and agreeable. its usually the folks that like being warm that get the latter effect.

peachi’s not really aware of this outside of the occasional comment that she’s really warm. if she were more aware she’d realize that the ppl who suffer the latter effect of her warmth are prone to going along with whatever she suggests/asks of them.

of the residents, she likes talking with fiddel a lot. when miru eventually joins they’ll become very good friends. she also spends a fair amount of time with chikti and hyde, when they aren’t hanging out with karura. she does try to remind chikti that she should be doing her chores but, well... chikti’s pretty convincing..

nemu makes her a little uncomfortable- she doesn’t like the sleepy feeling they give her.

ranch rambles: nidori twins edition

prefacing this with just... the larger ranch itself is not a particularly Great arrangement for anyone that isn’t Rho or someone that’s legit just an employee there (like Fiddel, for example). Some trolls that are part of the group are happier to be part of it than others.

Kuruha and Karura are 10-sweep-old 100% identical twins- it’s like, nigh impossible to tell them apart. The easiest tell is just their outward presentation, since Kuru is a trans man and does his best to present as masculinely as he can. It doesn’t always work v well since they have pretty feminine faces, and... its not easy to bind w/his chest size. 

Karu is definitely the more outgoing between the two and tends to take charge more often than not - even though one could also say she’s the more lazy between the two. She handles Rhonan whenever he comes around to talk about quotas and check in on how business is doing. While both twins buy into the hemospectrum, she’s more willing to press back on Rhonan (politely) when he starts pulling bullshit than Kuru is. Kuru’s idea of pushing back is more.. aggressive, and usually ends poorly for him (and by extension, karu).

Kuru mostly handles the physical labor in exchange for Karu handling Rho- tho that often just means that Karu neglects her chores and Kuru ends up picking up the slack. He doesn’t complain about it tho. He’s just happy not to have to deal with Rho.

In the rare instances that Kuru DOES deal with Rho personally, it’s not gone particularly well. They butt heads, as Kuru is naturally pretty grouchy and doesn’t appreciate being talked down to, even if he knows its Rho’s “right” to do so. 

It doesn’t help that Rho gets them confused pretty often and because he’s just That Asshole, doesn’t bother to differentiate between the two of them so he keeps referring to them both as Karura. Female pronouns and all.

The twins were acquired under Rho’s ‘protection’ when their farm had fallen on some hard times. There was a bit where a lot of the goats had gotten sick and weren’t producing well enough to have materials to sell, let alone pay anyone to help with the farm... Rho stepped in, offering to buy the property off them but allow them to keep operating. They were like, 7 at the time and didn’t fully understand what they were signing up for until they were older and realized they’d basically given him the rights to everything they had. Kuru’s still really pissed about it, but Karu’s come to accept it and makes the best of it.

The twins are pretty close, even though it might not really seem like it to outsiders. The way Karu talks to Kuru would definitely be classified as bullying if she were talking to anyone else like that. It’s a mutual understanding between the two of them, tho. Karu says some shit, Kuru says some back, just quieter. If either of them seems to truly be upset by something that was said they have a heart to heart about it when they’re alone.

Kuru often struggles with extreme dysphoria and often binds for much longer than he should unless Karu harasses him into taking his binder off. He usually hides inside when that happens. He’d rather not let others see him without the binder on, in case more people do what Rho does and just... stop differentiating between them.

Though the ranch at large does very well financially, because of the agreement that Rho got them to sign they don’t actually see a lot of the profits. Stuff like food, clothes, and general necessities are bought in bulk for everyone. After that’s handled, the rest of the portion Rho designates as funds for personal stuff gets divided among all of them, meaning they don’t get a particularly large allowance for truly personal purchases. Kuru saves his for an eventual shot at top surgery, as risky as it is. (personally w/trolls being trolls... i can’t imagine it’d be a particularly safe procedure for lower bloods)

Karu tries to help but often just ends up blowing her allowance on indulgent self-care items. Kuru does not fault her for this - he’d rather she spend her stuff on herself, anyway.

Among the other ranch residents, Karu gets along with Chikti (and Hyde by extension) the best. They have similar personality types - they’re both usually shirking their duties to gossip, despite getting in trouble for it all the time. She’s also known to hang around Peachi’s kitchen, stealing scraps from the meal prep to snack on. 

Kuru doesn’t socialize a ton, but he does like Ahsora and at least chats with Amatus somewhat often. He also likes Nemu, but tends to limit extended contact since Nemu makes him very, very tired... and he doesn’t like that.

ranch troll babblin, rhonan edition

rhonan technically owns all of their farms- he started off with his own ranch specializing in meat cattle then started buying up the land all his lowblood neighbors lived/operated on and “generously” offered to let them keep doing what they’re doing. he’s definitely a subscriber to the hemospectrum and doesn’t see lowbloods as much more than eventual cannon fodder. the others could technically leave but they’d have a very hard time doing it - he’s roped them all into some dubious legal shenanigans. there’s a few that aren’t really aware of exactly how deep in shit they are but they’re also the ones least likely to want to leave ahaha. legally they all have very little rights to anything they owned anymore which is Gross but it’s.... alternia. highbloods have a way of twisting the legal system to benefit them. miruko is not officially part of The Ranch - rhonan has just set his sights on acquiring her dairy farm next.

they all technically still have their hives, but there’s also a larger communal hive more toward the center of the land where they all join together that they’re able to stay in, too. 90% of the time rho stays in his original hive tho, its Much More Posh and why would he want to mingle w/the lowbloods for too long anyway???

the ones i’ve drawn are just the illustrated characters, he definitely has a lot more “workers” on the collective farms that do labor for ‘em. in terms of hierarchy the ones i’ve drawn are “bosses” of their old territories just without the official title or many benefits. rho himself does do some work around the ranch but for the most part he just kind of plays the part of that awful boss that looks over ur shoulder to see if ur Doin Your Job.

in order of acquisitions its been:

Nidori twins - goat dairy specialty

Peachi - meat products, specifically from pigs - she also cooks!

Chikti + Hydero - poultry + eggs

Ahsora - produce, also horses for various use

Nemuri - sheep wool and fibers

Turomb twins - alpaca wool and fibers

Fiddel - he was actually hired, not acquired tho - helps manage the sheep and alpaca flocks w/his dogs
