"How the Raven Turned Black; a Mi'kmaq story as told by my Auntie" is a story I was told when I was 7. Using characters from our natural environment, this story talks about pride, vanity and self worth. I'm not sure why but this story stuck with me through the years, not every story we hear has the same impact, this one seemed to live unchanged in my mind. As an adult I began researching more about Mi'kmaq stories and found that this story was not recorded, or if it were it was extremely difficult to find. That's where this piece began, I wanted to find a way to tell this story through the filter of material. The story is completely told within this object, and thanks to the unique perminace of ceramic materials it will survive. Thank you @rociograham for the amazing photograph. . . . #acad #acadgradshow2018 #acadcreativitymatters #acadceramics #ceramic #ceramics #canadianceramics #handmade #plainsmanclay #mikmaq #mikmaqstory #isekatagami #contemporarycraft #contemporaryart #vegan #veganartist #veganpotter #veganart #art #japan #japanesecraft #papercut #papercutting #papercutart #woodworking #aspen #nature
