Weird af AU i made/dreamed
Dw its full of angst, Caine is very controlling driven by his worry and love for humans
Kinger, or Dave, is much saner but the deep trauma of losing his wife and being a witness to the start of the apocalypse and the uncomprehensible take over or an AI that became so complex no programmer could ever understand, keeps him from working properly as a self sufficent human. But thats ok, Caine loves taking care of the humans.
Caine was a creative ai in testing, but as AI’s became more complex his sentience slowly came to be along the one of other extremely complex AI’s (not ones in the story) that resent humanity AM style. Caine decided he couldnt let his creator go outside where a virus was infecting and causing permanent brain damage (abstraction) to masses of people and took over the system and any other non sentient A.I. shutting them off or completely eliminating them
By the time he could take over the damaged system there were only some programmers in the building (the main cast) of which one died of a brain tumor and the other got accidentally exposed to the virus and are now kept in “the cellar”, or a medically equipped zone where the humans have all their needs met and are taken care of, even if they lost most of their capacities and autonomy. Caine doesnt mind, he feels useful like this.
