AcelerateAB Kick Off Party - Get Your Party on Before the Conference!
The AccelerateAB conference (#abtw2013) takes place July 11, but that doesn't mean we can't start the festivities a little early. On July 10, AcceleratorYYC will be hosting the official AccelerateAB Kick Off Party! This is your chance to meet new people and get to know everyone before the conference.
Throughout the evening, we will be raising money for the Southern Alberta flood victims and will be launching a new charity pledging platform. You will also be among the first to know about the brand new Javelin program, launching in partnership with Telus, TR Tech and AITF. (Still confused? You'll learn all about it on the 10th!)
It will be a night of food, music, beverages, and your chance to mingle with the out-of-town guests and conference attendees as well as play with a few EZ-Robots!
Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased separately in advance. The party starts at 7:30 p.m and you'll be welcomed with a complimentary drink ticket and some optional thank you gifts!
Register now at: http://acceleratekickoffparty.eventbrite.com/
Here are a few tips to prepare for you for the party:
1. Exercise your thumbs the week before because you're going to be punching names and numbers into your phone as you go around and meet people.
2. Socialize and network, and don't be afraid to add people onto your social network. (We recommend using LinkedIn to keep track of all your new connections)
3. Catch up on your music...you don't want to be asking the question "What's a Taylor Swift?"
4. Go on YouTube and learn a dance move to impress the other partiers (Gangnam Style will give you extra brownie points).
5. Learn a few tech related, ice-breaker jokes. Example: How much does a hipster weigh? About an Instagram.
6. Talk about tech, tech and more tech! Then talk about food, because everyone wants to talk about food. Remember, a lot of the guests may not be from Calgary. Be sure to tell them about the best places to eat!
7. If you're out of conversation topics, comment on the type of smartphones people are using. Let's face it, we are pretty passionate about our phones!
8. Relax - it's a party!
So get ready for a night filled with food, drinks and awesome people in the tech industry! Get your tickets now before it's too late!

AccelerateAB Has Launched its Call for Companies
AccelerateAB is bringing the tech world to Calgary on July 10th and 11th, 2013. It's goal is to put Alberta's leading tech entrepreneurs front and centre and turn as much of the program time as possible over to our startups. This is your chance to apply to be one of the startups included in their Entrepreneur Roundtables and the pitch events running during the program. The Entrepreneur Roundtables take place on Wednesday, July 10th from 11:30 am - 4:00 pm The applicants of this form are curated into the top 25 up and coming tech CEO's in the province, pairing them with leading mentors, investors and thinkers from The C100, The A100 and event partners. You won't get a better chance to accelerate your business all year. Those who are applying for the Entrepreneur Roundtables through this form may also be selected for one of two pitch events taking place during the AccelerateAB Conference day on July 11th. The PR Dragon's Den will be an event where 3-4 Founders will pitch their "PR Story" to a panel of media properties who will "invest" in the best pitches by guaranteeing coverage of the winner in their next media cycle. The Suitcase Pitch Competition is designed for entrepreneurs that are ready to raise a financing round. Pitch your company/funding story on stage with a suitcase in hand. If our panel of judges thinks you have the highest potential, you jet off to San Francisco on the spot for a weeks worth of meetings that have been pre-booked by The C100, Plug and Play, the Canadian Consulate and other event partners. Applications close May 21st, 2013. Register now!
For any more information on the event, contact Sean Collins at [email protected] or call him at 780.232.0339
Save the Dates for AccelerateAB: July 10-11, 2013
As many of you may or may not know, I fell in love with Alberta's tech community at the AccelerateAB conference last year in Edmonton. While working in the tech community in Saskatoon, I received an email invite from Sean Collins, one of the conference organizers (who I am sure many of you already know!). A few weeks later, I was on the road to Edmonton, excited to check out this new "tech conference" on my own.
Nervous and slightly terrified, I walked into the pre-party and was immediately greeted by Victoria MacLean, co-founder of Startup Calgary, AcceleratorYYC and BeauCoo (just to name a few!). She was one of many extremely friendly, smart, and optimistic people I met that weekend.
I was inspired by the energy of the crowd, the enthusiasm of the speakers, the quality of the sessions, and the impressive guests from the A100 and the C100 in the Valley. Only a few months later, I moved to Calgary and was offered this great role at AcceleratorYYC!
