hello, i’m deeya.

i have started this studyblr to document my academic journey to become a chartered accountant one day. i hope you support me, and we build a lovely community xx

i’m seventeen years old and i graduated from high school a few months ago. i have decided to pursue chartered accountancy along with bcom or bcom hons (still not sure).

college will start in fall, and currently i’ll spend my summer working to complete ca foundation.

fav shows: anne with an e, derry girls, suits, supernatural, vampire diaries, brooklyn 99, bojack horseman, stranger things, umbrella academy, gravity falls, and so many more.

fav movies: dead poets society (comfort movie), little women, any 2000s bollywood, any coming-of-age film and anything marvel and star wars!!

fav artists: hozier, lorde, lana del rey, taylor swift, ethel cain, mitski and the cranberries. (i’ll listen to anything, i swear)

fav books: the secret history, the picture of dorian gray, all rick riordan books, the hunger games, a good girl’s guide to murder, the bell jar, harry potter series, the shadowhunter chronicles.

fav writers/poets: dostoyvesky, sylvia plath!!(i love her), oscar wilde, jane austen, mary shelley, and franz kafka.

other fun facts:

i am a big reader, well used to be, but i now i don’t have enough time for it (shameful i know)

i am also an aspiring writer! i am currently working on two novels and i even have an writersgram (shush i’m not disclosing it yet)

i love stories about history, greek mythology, hindu mythology and everything about those.

i speak three languages but i want to learn atleast seven.

i had a huge dark academia phase, and i seriously love greek and latin so much.

i love fangirling over everything & have like 1089211 obsessions that i go crazy about.

i have so many random hobbies i can’t even mention them all (knitting, baking, art, gardening…)

i want to make a short film all by myself and i’m learning more about filmatography.

i am a literature, classics, history girl at my core but i don’t know why i have chosen to study finance, law, business and accounts instead??

my dream is to move out of my hometown (probably to london, it’s my fave city) and buy a little house and have 11 cats.

Sometimes somebody else's worries really are a cognitohazard of a kind.

Explanation below the cut. Beware.

Context:

My husband is a smart and capable man. As a result, he doesn't really deal a lot with his brain being blatantly non-constructive and solution-opposed when overwhelmed. He just doesn't get overwhelmed that easily by real problems (you know, shit to do with money or employment or adult life admin), and most social anxiety shit is trivial and/or transparantly irrational enough that he can either talk himself through it, or giving up on it has no real consequences.

However.

Because he doesn't deal with a non-constructive, solution-opposed brain on the daily, when something actually triggers that reaction in him, it is ALWAYS a "blow up a chunk of your life" mega disaster because he has zero coping skills. He gave up an entire study one year away from graduating because of some nebulous thing he never told me in detail about (I think he was too ashamed to tell me). He dropped another study 1 CLASS away from graduating because he couldn't bring himself to participate in the oral French exam. This is all like, a decade ago. But it's not like he's changed. His only strategy is "ignore scary thing until situation blows up in face, then give up, run away or kys."

He is not someone who knows the art of "Panic about the thing, do the thing while panicking", or has the impulse to ask for help when dealing with something like this (probably because of the usually trivial social anxiety bullshit).

ANYWAY.

Husband has a problem that he can't fix. At work. He's been weird and pointlessly stressed over (seemingly) nothing for a bit, and tonight he finally had a freakout where he told me about the thing.

It's a dumb thing. It's a proverbial french oral exam.

He works in the finance department for a kind of sub-entity (let's call it B2B Retail Activities) that got split off from its Original Company and sold off to another company (let's call it New Owner) a couple years ago now.

There's unpaid supplier invoices from the era *before* the sale. The supplier treats New Owner as the same entity as Original Company, only with a new VAT number. However, in effect the Original Company still exists as a separate entity but no longer has anything to do with B2B Retail Activities, and the New Owner is a full-on different entity that acquired part of the portfolio of Original Company.

Husband's boss says "just send the invoices back to the supplier and direct them to send them to Original Company".

But Original Company will just forward the invoices back to B2B Retail Activities saying they don't have this type of activity anymore and the invoices are for the sold-off sub-entity to handle.

But there is no way for husband to book/treat the invoices, because New Owner did not have B2B Retail Activities in its portfolio at the time the invoices were created and went unpaid.

...

Now, you say, this isn't a problem my husband created. This is not a problem my husband can reasonably fix by himself. This is a problem that can be resolved with a three-way conference call and some goodwill. This is a problem that exists entirely in a world where continually circling these unpaid invoices between all entities involved until the supplier throws a tantrum for his money would actually be an issue, which it isn't. This world is a large-scale admin disaster held aloft with spreadsheets and denial.

But no.

My husband's brain has decided to get stuck on this. He has ignored this issue for months now, because he didn't want to deal with it. The invoices had already gone several years unpaid, so it's not like it was *urgent*.

But he's been ruminating over it. He totally lost his shit yesterday over it in the middle of the night and I had to bring out my best "handle an insane person" skills (thankfully the insane person is usually me in this type of scenario so I have relevant experience). He's catastrophizing about personal legal consequences (highly highly unlikely) and letting this dumbass thing eat into his sleep. He says he can't bring himself to touch it or do anything about it.

He's being extremely non-constructive and very "No I don't wanna, scary thing uncomfortable".

And look.

It's dumb.

But if he doesn't get his shit together and just Does It Scared -something he has unfortunately zero precedent for in all the years we've been together... He's gonna blow up not just his life, but my life too.

...

So guess who is worrying about this now?

Yeah.

Me.

Fucking cognitohazard.

If I could just step into his shoes, make some calls and talk to some people, this shit would Already Be Fixed. Or at least have become upgraded to Not His Problem Anymore, which is the desired outcome. But because it's in the hands of my beloved but utterly Incompetent At Taming His Own Brain man, I have to sit here and wait for shit to explode on me.

Yesterday, we had our accounts exam, and the invigilator assigned to us was the same sir who taught us accounts in class 11th. As soon as we began our paper, barely a minute had passed when his phone started ringing. To everyone's surprise,the ringtone was the Panchayat intro song.

My Life as an Accountancy Student....

I am currently a 1st year accounting student from my beloved alma mater. To be honest, BSA is not my first choice course; my first choice course ever since I was a child was engineering, which was always my top choice since my father is a civil engineer. Long story short, I was a BSA student, and I am enjoying the course that I chose since I am also interested in numbers and business. It is interesting as well as hard, but with my co-BSA student, it became easier because they are always there for me and support me.

It's okay to be afraid, but it's not okay to not always try.
