Dream Journal 2019-10-21: Fish Davidson’s Poorly-Planned Heist Actually Turns Out All Right
Parts of this dream are definitely inspired by the most recent episode of Mr. Robot, which I watched right before bedtime. Don’t worry, there won’t be any significant spoilers. The only relevant details you need to know were that someone was trying to break into an online banking account, but the heist required physical access to the computer and also a hardware security token.
And that episode plot point is where the plot of the dream begins. I needed to compromise a computer for personal reasons that are unknown even to me. I snuck into the Accounts Payable office of a big university and pretended like I belonged there. The computer I needed was in a shared office and the person who normally used it was out to lunch. I am operating under the assumption that the rest of the office takes lunch at the same time, so I will be alone.
Unfortunately that is not the case.
Someone swivels around in an office chair and clears their throat just after I sit down at the computer and start pulling up financial documents. I flail my hands on the keyboard pull up a random application. The program now on the screen is clearly recognizable to me as You Need A Budget (YNAB), which they are apparently using for their expense-tracking. (Side note: I use this software in real life and enthusiastically recommend it).
”Are you here for the interview?” the person asks me.
“Uhh..... Yeah?” I answer, trying to bluff myself out of the delicate situation in which I find myself.
“I see,” the lady says. “But I’m afraid we don’t have a resume from you.”
”Oh, I’m here to look at the software you use to see if I'm qualified enough to warrant applying for this job.”
Time flashes forward and long story short, I now have to explain to my wife that I have taken an Accounts Payable job as a civilian contractor for a place known only as Area C. There are a lot of openings at Area C, so let me know if you’re interested and I’ll see if I can get you a job there, too.
