Project(s)
I have several unfinished projects sitting around at the moment, but not abandoned. I have disassembled the saddle as much as I can, but I'm waiting on getting some help (or really BIG wirecutters) with one metal pin I cannot undo on my own. My husband and I found a piece of an ash log that may do for the wooden base for the saddle-seat; I'm hoping that it will fit.
The antique quilt frame is cleaned up, but one piece has a crack and must be glued before I can assemble and use it.
Last week when I was working on trail maintenance, I found several very small hickory trees that were either ruined (top broken out, unable to grow further) or growing directly under larger trees. I cut three, and brought the trunk sections home. Yesterday I debarked them (mostly) using a drawknife.
Drawknives are very simple to use, and a low-stakes project like getting the bark off these saplings is really fun. Except for the little stubs where branches broke my groove! I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to use three hickory poles for, but I'd like to make a very tall cat tree in my living room. These will need to sit inside over winter and dry out, then we'll see.
