ST. VINCENT Making Directorial Debut With Horror Anthology XX? (R.I.P. everyone)

Director Karyn Kusama was the special guest on this week’s episode of the Killer POV podcast to talk about her latest film THE INVITATION, now playing in select theaters and available on VOD. The discussion touched upon her entire career, past and present, and eventually turned to XX, the all-female directed anthology film that Magnet Releasing is helping to produce and distribute. The project was first announced back in late 2014 and finally looks to be nearing completion, but with one surprise addition.
When asked the status of the segments, Kusama told the Killer POV crew, “Jovanka (Vuckovic)’s film is finished. Mine is finished. I think we’re waiting on Annie Clark from St. Vincent, who is now making her own films. She has a film in it.”
For those unfamiliar, Annie Clark is better known by her stage name St. Vincent and has released 4 critically acclaimed full length albums, Marry Me, Actor, Strange Mercy and her 2014 self titled album St. Vincent, as well as a collaboration with David Bryne titled “Love This Giant.” We’re big fans of her music, so hearing that she’ll be making her directorial debut with a horror segment in XX is both intriguing and exciting!
When asked if the segments have any sort of connective tissue the way most anthologies tend to, Kusama confessed that thematically, all the films are definitely in line. “You know what’s really funny is that the material ended up connecting itself. I think the films are very different, but there are overriding anxieties about female-ness to a degree. And I want to say body horror is a component. I remember my first idea I couldn’t do because not that it was… too similar, but thematically, we were treading in the same waters. (Producer) Todd Brown, he feels pretty certain that they’ll end up being natural thematic alignments.”

"The symbol was around this corner, Cas," you called to him down the hallway. You rushed around the corner and instead of seeing the open room you collided with something alarmingly solid. You let out a surprised noise that was somewhere between a grunt and a scream. "What the hell!" you yelled. You pulled your gun out of habit. You were staring at two guys, decked out in gadgets. They were now shining their flashlights in your face, completely blinding you. "Lower the LIGHTS!" you said, dropping your gun to your side and using the other arm to shield your eyes.
Cas was there instantly, roughly grabbing the shirt collar of the guy closest to you and lifting him so his toes were off the ground. "What happened?" he growled.
The guy's sidekick was whimpering next to him. "Wh-where the hell did he just come from?!"
"Cas," you said gently. He did not release stooge number one.
"If you touch her again I will break every bone in your body one by one, very slowly," Cas growled through gritted teeth.
"Cas!" You reached out and placed your hand gently on his arm. He looked at you, the softness returning to his eyes. "It's ok. It was an accident. You can put him down now."
Cas begrudgingly did as you asked but fixed his eyes on them in an icy stare. You wouldn't have been surprised if they had both vaporized under the intensity of that stare. They both wilted slightly and stepped back and you smirked to yourself as you linked your hand with Cas'. He immediately softened again at your touch. You loved that...
Shinju has always said they will get their abilities back. Now that they destroyed a TON of vertexes & the world no longer needs their protection (for now, at least), the heroes can finally return their power, retire & gain back what they initially sacrificed for their power. How is this an asspull? The only thing is that everything happened a little too fast.
BUT YESSSS WE GOT OUR HAPPY END.
I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS POSSIBLE BUT OUR HEROES PULLED THROUGH.
I really love this show.
