While I don't personally think or write of Hawks as ace, I'm sure I can think of an ace!hawks very easily. I know I wrote out somewhere, in fic or meta, that Hawks likely thinks of other people as if he's seeing them through glass. A remnant of his earliest socialization being a TV screen. And that extends to how he visualizes himself (on one side of the glass) and views others - also all his shielding habits/clear fear of emotional exposure. There's a lot of both not understanding people and also not wishing to be perceived.

I bring this up because I think Hawks would, especially an ace!Hawks, be aware that sexual attraction exists, but it would be something that exists firmly on the other side of glass, and not on his side, just another thing that makes him distant and different. Especially when he is so clearly fetishized by his fans, and a large part of his stated in-canon appeal is that he's attractive and charismatic. Much like he already does in canon, it's very easy to think of him going through the motions and acting as others do to deflect anyone realizing he truly doesn't feel this stuff. I think that's a very relatable queer feeling (not just for those on the ace spectrum). Belonging, realizing the world around you isn't for you and that you never quite fit.

What is your favorite Hawks head canon that someone else has come up with?

this has been in my inbox for a while now so i’m just accepting that i’m never gonna come up with a concrete answer because there’s so much to love abt the headcanons others have created !! so i’ll just pick what’s in my head rn

i really like ace hawks, but weirdly what’s been on my mind lately is third eyelids? no idea who came up with it or if anyone knows, but i first came across it in The Sword of Damocles is Swinging by @prince-liest and it’s stuck with me since. it’s one of my fave bird trait headcanons because it’s one of those that seems so genuinely animalistic and unsettling while also being cute..... and also plausible, since hawks already has so many bird traits to do with his eyes (raptor vision, markings, pupils that seem to dilate) so what’s one more? plus i think his eyes are the most earnest, revealing part of him! as a child they’re despondent, as an adult he keeps them half lidded to suggest indifference, but then we get those glimpses of hope and determination in them that stays the same..... i like hcs surrounding his eyes :]

Nonnie, I usually don’t care for headcanons about characters’ orientations, but this just sounds so right for Hawks?? I know the fandom loves to have its fun making him a smooth flirt, giving him hook-ups, a breeding kink, etc. which is all fine and good, but have you thought of Hawks whose never even held hands with someone? Have you thought of Hawks finally making some real friends and slowly falling in love with someone from that circle? Have you thought of Hawks who gets into bed with his S.O. and just... cuddles them from behind, nothing much else? Asexual, demiromantic Hawks RIGHTS 😤

With Hawks’ upbringing and current lifestyle, I don’t expect him to want or need an intimate relationship (I think this gives my demi/ace Hawks head canon some credibility)

Hawks, what do you think about the headcanons fans make about your sexuality/gender identity?

They have the freedom to think what they want, doesn’t always make it true. When I do meet and greets or visit with fans on the street or on the job or whatever, they don’t usually bring it up--so I never really had the need to say anything about it. 👉 However! The internet’s a little more creative place, ain’t it? I’ve gotten to see a lot of unique points of view about me, it’s pretty neat. That being said, with training and hero work and just who I am--I’m demisexual. I’ve developed sexually in the physical and mental sense but I’m a lone act. It’s hard to settle down and get into the lovey-dovey when you’re always on the move. I wouldn’t have it any other way though.

I’m sure having a partner is satisfying and gratifying, and I wouldn’t want a quick hookup because I don’t connect with people easily enough to give them that part of myself. It may be a bird thing--most birds of prey mate for life. I don’t see that happening though--I don’t process a lot of romantic things very well. I understand they’re romantic, but my body doesn’t always register it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it could always change with time, who knows? Anyway, thanks for your support!
