I have been working back in my hometown for the summer, and have not been addressed properly once. I don't blame any of the people doing it, since they have no clue and I'm not being overt about it, for the sake of my employment. But it has reminded me just how great it is to be addressed with your chosen pronouns by people who respect your identity.

Which, for Pride Month, I thought I might clarify for the masses! It is a little funny that I've never actually “come out”

My gender identity falls under the nonbinary umbrella, which means I identify as neither a man nor a woman. However, just calling myself “nonbinary” feels wrong for me. Instead, I choose to say “unlabeled” when speaking about my gender, and use they/them pronouns. I don't need to have my gender be a specific thing. There's not really a good way to describe it in words- and that's okay.

I've tried to figure out my romantic and sexual identity for years, but I've really only been able to narrow it down to three points:

1. I don't like men.

2. I'm probably demiromantic (only feeling romantic attraction after a strong platonic bond has been made).

3. I'm probably aceflux (sexual attraction that fluctuates over time).

Even with all this, I haven't really found a word that emcompasses that first point just right. And to be completely honest, I'm perfectly happy keeping it that way!

For all of you who don't know what specific labels describe you perfectly, or who don't feel like seeking them out, I'm here to tell you that's okay! That doesn’t make you any less queer, and it doesn't mean you don't get to explore all the communities around you. If you don't, how will you ever feel comfortable?

All my unlabeled friends; know that you are not alone, and you don’t need to give a straight (hehe) answer to anyone. Let them wonder. And never let them find out that you're just as lost as they are 💀
