Shout out to folks with Hidradenitis Suppurativa/Acne Inversa!
It should be a human rights violation to NOT remove the uterus of someone with Hidradenitis Suppurativa if they want to do so. Like getting periods makes this condition EXTRA hellish. Not only does wearing underwear increase the chances of new flare ups spawning as well as irritating existing ones, wearing a pad WORSENS the above. And you literally. Cant do anything about it. I cant just free bleed.
while i wouldn't wish this shit on anyone, i kinda wish someone around me also had this bullshit so i could go "hey my whole deal is blood and pus and pain and ooze" and get a "fucking same dude. wanna go with me to get more gauze?" "yeah actually im running low"
bc like. you'd think there'd be a bit more understanding with it vs like my invisible disabilities. but there's not.
I just get "ew just bathe" its literally my hair follicles going nuclear and hygiene has nothing to do with it. "shave then" that makes it worse bc it irritates the follicles. "just lose weight" yeah lemme just roll up to the gym actively oozing pus and blood from a wound that will 1000% smell horrific by the end of the work out because the bacteria on my skin are already going wild for the wound, now you wanna add sweat? sure. that'll be fun for everyone involved.
But i have no one irl to commiserate with on that. I can get sympathy, but i don't have anyone who understands it directly. which is annoying.
gotta share a little hs victory right now. after almost having given up on my faith in doctors i went to a dermatologist office that does laser hair removal today. the initial consultation was gonna cost 65€ alone but i was like i'll do anything at this point. i had so many doubts but it went soooo well. the doctor immediately asked to look at my lesions (my last one wouldn't look at them until i insisted), she consulted her laser tech colleague to look at them as well. then she said she wouldn't charge me the consultation fee since this isn't for cosmetic reasons, and she'd basically beg my insurance to cover it. she advised to add a picture of my lesions to the insurance letter. she prescribed a short antibiotic regiment, just enough so the lesions would close before lasering (my last doctor hit me over the head with 3 months of two antibiotics without having tried anything gentler). i'm just. so relieved. that there's people who seem to know and care about people with this condition. getting rid of the hair might not cure me but it'll definitely improve me and i just. there's hope, maybe
The brutal truth of what HS looks like.
-
Blood stained clothes.
High - excruciating pain when sitting in a relaxed posittion
Being unable to do regular day to day activities because of the location of one of the swelling abcesses (for days or even weeks sometimes)
Stress levels elevated in fear itll burst and bleed, smell, stain clothes etc.
Trying for years to figure out what the fuck is going on and the doctors not helping much AT ALL and just telling you to clean more and try ointment, after cream, after oral antibiotic, after more ointment, after blood tests etc after MORE medications finally finding the TERM HS on TIKTOK. And SELF DIAGNOSING, THEN GOING TO THE DERM TO PAY $300-$600 to just get "yeah sounds like it to me". 🗣🗣
Oh and here's a mood board for fun (not fun at all)
Tw blood below the cut
getting stoned every day to cope with the horrors (hidradenitis suppurativa)
