JOINT MAINTENANCE... . Just as a disclaimer this is not the be all and end all for joint health but if I could instill one philosophy in people in terms or improving and maintaining joint health in our body this would be it ⬇️📝. Although the image refers to the lumbar this principle applies to ALL JOINTS IN THE BODY! . Think of each joint as a scale⚖️. Let's take the vertebrae and discs of the low back for example. They bend forward, bend back, the rotate and side bend a bit, like a 4 pronged ⚖️⚖️ scale . If you sit 💺 all day and slouch, you put more and more weight on the forward bend/flexion side of the scale. A bit here and there of slouching is like placing feathers on that side. Doing all day, day in and day out puts a brick on the scale, making it harder and harder to balance the scale out ⚖️ . So the ideal joint is one that relatively maintains a good range of motion by exploring 🕵🏼🤸♀️🏋🏽♀️all the ranges on a hopefully a daily basis . By doing this you are essentially loading the various joints in various ranges of motion. This can this build some resilience in those positions 💪. This also means that when you do go into various ranges during activities your body will have experienced those ranges . So what does this all mean? A great start to joint health is SLOW AND CONTROLLED MOVEMENT THROUGH THE AVAILABLE RANGE OF MOTION, with an emphasis on the opposite end of the over weighted potion of the movement/scale. This goes for most if not all joints. Of course there is strength, endurance, etc that are variables but at the core i believe it's about moving the joints through range .
