As it's International Day of Persons with Disabilities, this disabled person has some things to say ♡
♡Disabled people deserve enough money to live comfortably
♡Not every disabled person can work, and that's okay
♡We would honestly rather have a fairer benefits system where everyone is guaranteed to get what they need (even at the risk of people "taking advantage" of it) than the system we have now, which is so deliberately cruel and ruthless that, while fraud is remarkably low, many genuinely disabled people are left without
♡Stop approaching disabled people in the street and asking "what happened to us", it's rude to ask a complete stranger for their medical history
♡Stop recommending essential oils and yoga; the simple truth that a lot of able bodied people are absolutely terrified of is that, no matter how healthy you eat or how often you exercise, sometimes people do just become disabled and there's nothing that can be done about it. Your fad diet and rigorous supplement regime will not save you. Sometimes there really is nothing that can be done. Let go of your illusion of control and stop insinuating that xyz disability could've been prevented if they had just snorted kale and boofed vitamin c tablets.
