Story time.
I have NVLD and it causes a lot of issues with visual spatial things. I CAN drive and am an extremely careful driver and have never gotten into an accident. I do get confused sometimes and have done things that... weren't THAT bad but also not great a couple of times. I would just not drive, but I live in rural USA and not driving = being homebound (a life I've lived before due to not driving, and never want to live again.)
One time I was driving around in an unfamiliar place that was a lot more urban than I'm used to, and it was dark, and it started raining heavily which made the visibility pretty bad. I missed my exit and ended up in a part of town with confusing intersections, ended up sitting at one for a long time trying to figure out if it was a drive all the way to the other side of that barrier situation or not, to the point where the very kind gentlemen behind me got out of his car and told me it was okay to go. The only thing I could blurt out was that I was so sorry and I was from the country and not used to driving somewhere like this. (Seeing as it wasn't a CITY city, I have no idea where he must have thought I was from, I probably gave him the impression that I had come out of the most back country section of rural Kentucky or something LOL, which, like I said, I AM rural but not quite that rural.) I proceeded to try to get on the interstate several times and miss my exit every time because of confusing road markings and poor visibility, and ended up in the parking lot of a store, crying and calling one of my brothers, who fortunately lived very close to there. He and a friend mercifully came and picked me up, and he took me back to the hotel where I was staying. It was really embarrassing and I cried a lot and felt very, very stupid.
If you struggle with driving, and have ever done something that made you think "I'm so stupid, NOBODY does this." It's me 🙋 I do too.
