Im genuinely so glad I found out about Paganism.

I first heard of paganism when I was doomscrolling on my phone back in November and I heard of Yule when looking at a slideshow.

I was drawn to how beautiful it looked and that’s when I started researching about Yule and Paganism.

It basically became an interest to me and sparked my interest in religions. At first, it felt wrong for doing those things because I found it impossible to believe in a deity but after three-four months of researching it, I found that you can be agnostic and a pagan(I’ve have a belief that the earth is spiritual in a way, incase you were wondering). i started labeling myself as one.

AND let me tell you, if I never came across that slideshow, I would still be bedrotting. I wouldn’t go outside as much or even AT ALL, I wouldn’t do any activities and my mental health and hygiene would be not good. My mental health has gotten a lot better :3

I got back from a walk around the lake and I just wanted to say I’m so so happy that paganism came into my life.

Met a norse pagan family at work the other day.

The couple had rune tattoos and some of seemingly Frigg and Thor. And a daughter. I dont know why but that made me very happy.

I asked if they are Norse Pagan and they said yes and they'd assumed I was too from my necklace (I always wear my mjolnir pendant.)

We rambled about it for a while and how annoying it is white supremacists steal our religious symbols, or how the religion gets twisted as a whole. How beautiful the practice is. The two own a tattoo shop. The mom has a huge Freyja tattoo on her back.

Their child is four and ofc doesn't care whatever we are talking about and wants to go back to [the activity I help them do at my work] so the conversation ends lol.

But Idk. It was very special to me. It's very special meeting other Norse Pagans-- and there's more than I thought there were, honestly. I joke that there's 3 options for every person I see with rune tattoos:

1. Doesn't really know what they mean.

2. White supremacist.

3. Norse pagan.

There's certainly overlap, but like. Pretty much that's it.

Still, there's a LOT of people who it seems Norse Paganism is, if not their religion, at least something important to them as a subject (or at least KNOWN). The amount of rune/norse tattoos I've seen is enough to quantify a lot of us. But also people commenting on my pendant. "I like your Mjolnir necklace" etc.

Maybe I'm looking into things too deeply but most people don't know what Mjolnir is. Or at least not the name. I think? I don't know. Sus.

But the fact that I, at my little random job, have run into a number of other Norse Pagans makes me happy.

It's beautiful seeing others live their lives. I think it's just that I've never seen it before, at least not in any personal experience. It's beautiful seeing this couple who runs their shop clearly inspired by and in worship to the Gods, and raising their child under those beautiful practices and prayers to Frigg and Freyja for her protection.

It makes me happy.

Witchcraft & Gender Essentialism: Why I (A Genderfluid Person) Became A Solitary Practioner

Sidenote: I grew up Pagan and this isn’t targeted toward anyone in particular, it’s just a general fatal flaw I see in a lot of mainstream western practioning pagan ideaologies.

One of the reasons I kinda “left” the whole Pagan thing or at least became a “solitary practioner” (as in I generally avoid interacting with other people in that community without thorough scrutiny) is that I fucking HATE gender essentialism and it’s absolutely EVERYWHERE, and I mean everywhere in western witchcraft, and it’s absolutely suffocating. It totally comes from the “Men are trash, they’re temporary and strong and kill things and are only good for making more women. Women are pure and delicate and wise and one with nature and that makes us better than them ;)” fake feminism (i.e. Misandry & TERF ideaology) inverted sexism that I had shoveled into my face as a kid.

Its in the songs, it’s in the way holy days are celebrated, it’s in the books that even men I know who practice have written. The sexism in both directions is baked in. It’s reskinned gender binary shit that came from the Christian monoculture with a crunchy granola skin. Its built on a gender binary that feels bone deep hostile to people who don’t/cannot conform to that narrow constriction.

It’s also why I don’t believe in gods as they are currently worshipped and understood, because it elements of the world and human nature and forcibly gendering them. Fire isn’t passionate and temperamental like a “woman” it’s not destructive and dominant like a “man” it’s fire, it does whatever the fuck it wants without you slapping sexist anthropomorphic labels onto it. Fire is sacred and it’s one of the core elements of many pagan sects but there’s nothing gendered about it.

It makes me so tired, and for every single person who has managed to reconcile their faith and extract the sexism from it, theres 15 more that would think I’m “just a man”, or “just a woman”, or come up with some pagan/witchy sounding label they found that’s probably culturally inappropriate for them to use. Because they can’t fathom the fact I (and other trans people across the gender spectrum) could ever possibly inhabit both of those spaces interchangeably and at varying intensifies of my own free will. And so could they and you don’t need to be genderfluid to see that there shouldn’t be a distinction between the God and the Goddess because nature and the cosmos don’t give a fuck about gender identity. 😤😮‍💨
