“Ben?” I asked, drawing my knees up as I put the phone on speaker.
“yeah? What’s wrong?” He asked, concern dripping from his voice.

When people say season 2 of Severance feels different they're right but it's not a bad thing. First because this was the goal, Adam and Dan have mentioned several times how they wanted this season to feel different because they wanted to expand and explore new things. You can dislike the route they've taken but it's not a bug, it's a feature.
But I also think it makes sense thematically: in season one our world is small and centers around Lumon but especially MDR. On the outside we focus on Mark and the people around him (Devon, Petey, Cobel) and only hear from them in relation to Mark's plot and story.
In season two our world expands, we learn more about the Severed floor, things are changing (Milchick is now the boss, some of the rooms and the rules in the severed floor are changing, too). The innies learn more about their world: they finally see Mammalians Nurturable, they experience the ORTBO, they learn about the exports hall, etc. We also see more things on the outside, we are not so focused on Mark. We follow Cobel, Helena, Milchick and Gemma more than we did in season one. We see more of Devon and Ricken and how Lumon is starting to affect them (like when Natalie was after Ricken for his book) and not just Mark.
To me this makes sense with the idea that innies are (in a way) like children in season one and like teenagers in season two. Their world gets bigger and more complex, the stakes are higher but so are the rewards (just look at Dylan's perks).
And I think season three is going to go the same way and our world is going to get even bigger. I think they set up Irving (and possibly even Ms Huang) to show us more of the world in Severance.

Well, guess what? It's 90 degrees out there, it's 68 degrees in here, and this episode of The Bachelorette isn't going to watch itself.
