Small piece of the game plan...
So…I’m running a 50K. On October 1st. It’s a 5-loop 10K chipper of a long run. And my first ultra.
I’ve been slowly building back into distance running since mid-April. This weekend marks about the 6th week of steady, consistent base-building and training. Noticed my legs getting considerably more tired this week, and achy.
Last weekend I had, I guess, kind-of a lightbulb moment. It just made sense to start splitting training runs into KM, not miles. (Haha…WHY didn’t I think of this sooner?) Last Sunday, went for a two-10km long run and it was perfect. 20km and finally getting into the groove. Will add a 3rd (30km) and eventually 4th (40km) loop to Sunday training runs til mid-September.
For the next 7 weeks, I’ll be running medium-long runs with a marathon training group on Saturdays. Sunday’s will be the true long run day.
Today did a 10-miler with the group. It was the best I’ve EVER felt during a run 😅 just found this amazing, random reserve energy at about mile 7…was cruising and all of a sudden a fire was lit under my feet. Ran my last 3 miles more easily and faster than the 7 before.
Tonight: Epsom salt bath and watching the Olympics, then addaday/triggerpoint massage on calves and IT area. I'll squeeze into some compression socks at some point too. Tomorrow: early 14-miler. Gonna find a 7mi loop somewhere and see if I can run a negative second-7mi.
