And so, with the Chickering underboss skull placed, I am now Gomez Addams. Perfect.

Our Morbid Obsession for The Addams Family

They say family is not often found in blood but rather, in the people you find the most closest to. (something like that) From the wholesome found family manga/ anime; in < Spy X Family > to the overly memed < Fast and Furious > family of Dominic Toretto.

The family troupe of a strange and dangerous hobby/occupation intrigues us all. We marvel at their oddities and the pride that they carry about their peculiarities. One of the many strangest families out there in media are the creepy and the kooky, mysterious and spooky. The altogether Ooky...

- Neat, Sweet, Petite -

< The Addams Family > started out as a comic strip by American cartoonist; [Charles Addams] and as the name suggests, follows a fictional family named after the late author himself. In their earliest versions, the Addamses are an odd wealthy aristocratic clan/family who is culturally stuck in the Victorian age, living in the society of the modern world.

As a family, they delight with the company of the macabre and are mostly unaware or unconcerned that other people find them bizarre or frightening. Although they started out nameless, The family members were eventually given names as mentioned.

Starting with the lovingly charming; Gomez, the slender and stunning; Morticia, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, their butler simulacrum; Lurch, the helper; Thing (a disembodied hand) and other close family members such as; Uncle Fester, Granny Frump and Cousin Itt. The family also have notable pets which are Morticia's pet lion; Kitty Kat and Pugsley's pet; Aristotle

As a series, the Addamses live a normal life (well, as normal as any strange family can be) Making money by having curious souls visiting their antiques for tea and some small change. On the side, we follow the children who goes to school, causing mayhem and making quite a few friends along the way.

As the years go by, this cooky family spawned three life-action movies, an animated series, two CGI movies and coming soon, a follow up Netflix series starting [Jenna Ortega] as teen < Wednesday Addams > Making the Addams Family a pop culture icon in the media industry.

- I Do Like Stabbing -

Since it's conception, the Addamses sparked a rather odd attraction to us normal folks. We are intrigued by their unashamed and quirky nature with each family member being just as odd as the next.

Such is the case for Gomez and Morticia's dark romance as husband and wife. As a husband, our boi Gomez is hopelessly smitten by Morticia's stunning beauty and dark mind for death and creepy things.

He is openly intimate with his wife in public and in private at near manic levels. Often seen dancing to classical music with her, kissing every inch of her body and put both themselves in harm's way as romantic gestures.

Despite his nature, Gomez is a very loving father who cares for the family. Opening his mind to be at least, understanding towards the Normals with great enthusiasm and generally, he’s a lot more social in comparison to the other Addamses.

Speaking of caring, there's a certain class to how Morticia speaks and acts. She is, undoubtedly the fairest of them all with a powerful presence at the rooms she walks into. Being against our typical understanding of what we perceive in women.

She's depicted as deathly pale, has a spider-like figure with luscious long black hair. She maintains that effortless beauty, while still staying humble towards the "plastic moms" of that era and their beliefs.

Unlike Gomez, she is rather reserved towards the Normals while still maintaining some of her husband's social skills at parties and other social meetings among parents.

Following after her, we're gonna piggyback onto the star; Wednesday. She takes after her mother for being the most intelligent and sadistic girl at an age where being edgy seems normal.

She finds joy in the suffering of others and uses that tendency to go after bullies who has done her or her circle of friends any pain. She is the classic version of the Goth Girl and is the inspiration to the few that came after. Followed by the psychotic DC supervillain; [Harley Quinn] (Warning, graphic scene here)

After Wednesday, we turn to her younger brother; Pugsley who is the typical example an arsonist that likes all things explosive and destructive.

Although he is not as bright as Wednesday, Pugsley is an expert in all things mechanical and takes after his Uncle Fester or Gomez to outsmart and out-harm one another but is often backfired against him or to someone else.

- It's Horrible, It's Home -

With that said, it is a wonder why we love the Addamses. They break the archetype of the perfect and sane family. In spite of their personalities, they are at least honest and still loving towards one another. Standing out while still being a lot "healthier" than the neighboring families who act conservative towards things they don't understand.

Despite their limited appearance in media, each Addams is important as the next and in every version. They keep the viewers on the edge of their seat for which attempt of murder will happen next.

There's an unspoken rule that no matter hard they each try. Death never comes for them and they have strangely survived against their wishes but perhaps, that is why despite their murderous tendencies. They very much love one another. Knowing that their days are short and that they should value it until death comes to smother them into the dark.

As mentioned earlier. The new Netflix show is coming out soon however, I must credit the < Adult Wednesday Addams > YouTube show by Melissa Hunter that may have kick-started the idea to revive the Addamses via Wednesday. Which suffered an unfair treatment of being taken down years prior to the announcement of the new show.

As far as explorations go, it will be an interesting insight since the token Goth Girl troupe became highly popular in recent years. Of all the characters within the family, Wednesday is the perfect balance creepy and dark humor with a slight hint of romantic darkness.

With the news that [Tim Burton] is directing the show and given his track record in recent movies. I do worry and am at the same time, interested that they would either do something new or terribly butcher another once beloved franchise.

Since the announcement, I fear for the same fate for Wednesday as is the case of other Netflix series < The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina > which suffered greatly till cancelation. Still, I remain hopeful and perhaps this will be Burton’s chance of redemption.

What makes The Essence of The Addames fun to watch is that they are unapologetic but respectfully fun at the same time towards the subjects they include.

They maybe dark but they make it damn fun to be a part of the dark side and it would be exciting to reintroduce the value of being unashamed of one’s morbid nature. We will be watching and we will be snapping our fingers when that familiar theme plays in the intro.
