Your hands wrapped tightly around your fresh cup of coffee, an attempt to take away the feeling of the crisp temperature outside that came with the light snowfall.
The weather wasn’t all that cold temperature wise, but with the past week being so warm, you were suddenly spoiled into thinking just below freezing, was cold. Autumn had gone by so quickly, and Winter was coming to its end as well. You were always told that time seemed to go slower when you weren’t enjoying it, but only now could you say that you understood that phrase completely. Spending all those months utterly alone made you feel so dull and empty.
Well maybe alone wasn’t the best way to describe it. Sure you had gone out with a few friends, and college courses were filling your time for the most part, but the person that you wanted to see most was the one you had seen nothing of. Your boyfriend.
You didn’t blame him for being so busy, he was like that even when the two of you first met. Always cooped up in his studio, doing what he enjoys most. Yet you couldn’t help but feel as if a part of you was missing, the heaviness of your heart seeming to grow as each day passed.
Of course, it wasn’t like he told you not to come to his studio, you could have easily visited him multiple times, but the anxiety over interrupting him was too much, and in the end you decided to stay safe and keep your sadness locked away inside of you, the suffering of feeling so alone was just something you would have to bear with.
Today was a day just like the rest, a day out with your friends. Your body may be there with them, but your mind was up in the clouds, everything and everyone seeming so far out of reach. Their conversations seemed to go in one ear and out the other, as if a slight breeze was just passing through. You could see them glance at you every now and then with worried expressions, but you tried your best to smile in reassurance before turning away.
Unknowing to you, their muted conversation was revolving around you. They could see how unhealthy you seemed to be, how dull and lifeless you looked despite them trying their best to keep you up and going. It was extremely worrying, the little things like accidentally forgetting to eat, staying up much too late and ending up getting almost no sleep, all around your mental and physical well-being was deteriorating at a steady rate.
“Will this really help bring Y/N back to normal?” One of your friends glanced secretively over their shoulder, their hair shading you from noticing, not that you would have in the first place. You were mindlessly following them once again, your feet surprisingly missing most of the icy spots that would send you falling.
“We can only hope..” With a deep sigh, your friend fell back a few steps and adjusted your hat into place, buttoning up the last button of your jacket and coercing you into drinking your hot cup of coffee you had long forgot about. With a trembling smile, you took a sip. Your senses were dull as your body refused to flinch from the high temperature of the drink.
Holding themselves back from being upset, your two close friends carefully changed the direction in which you were all walking, conversing in hushed tones about irrelevant things, was it the new package of school work they had received that week? Or maybe it was the price of the coffee’s you had all stopped to buy? Either way, you didn’t know. Sipping slowly on your drink, you once again found yourself lost on an endless thought train.
Your body stiffened as your eyes focused in on the building at the end of the street. The way the dull light hit the frosted over glass of the door made you frown slightly, anxious thoughts racing around your mind.
‘Did he stay overnight?’
‘Has he even eaten yet?’
‘How long has it been since he ate?’
‘What if he didn’t sleep at all?!’
Your face lit up red as stress took over, a bead of sweat ran down the side of your face, but froze before it could roll off. Without a glance in your friends direction, you hastily ran down the street, the grip on your boots barely keeping you up and going in the fight against the snow covering the street. Coffee splashed over the edges of your cup, the burning liquid hitting your bare hands, but you paid no attention to the painful sensation as you stumbled up the front steps.
Ramming your body into the door, it flew open, the warm inside air hitting you straight on, and returning some sense to you. The burning sensation of the coffee on your hands began to register in your mind, your eyes watering as you thought over your irrational actions. Glancing back over your shoulder with tears in your eyes, you could no longer see your friends, the snow blowing outside either covering their figures, or they were simply gone.
“Y/N?” A tear escaped the corner of your eye as you slowly turned to face who had called out to you.
There.
There he was.
His face was shaded under a dull grey cap, but it was easy to see his wide eyes filled with worry as he took in your appearance.
Your boyfriend. Woozi.
“H..Hi..” You were quick to straighten your posture and blink away the tears, a small nervous smile making an appearance on your features, “I.. Do you want some coffee?”
After taking a moment to give you an incredulous look, he rushed to your side, carefully removing the cup of coffee from your hands before using his oversized hoodie to wipe the spill off your hands. The only thing keeping you steady was his grip on your hands, the rest of your body was trembling.
What was this feeling?
Was it anticipation?
Was it the nerves getting to you?
What about the anxiety?
Maybe it was just excitement?
You were unsure of that, but you could feel everything.
The warm feeling that spread from within you sent tingles down your spine, the ice around your heart seeming to melt, the emptiness that had once dominated you was no longer there, and the clouds that covered your mind seemed to clear with the warmth of the sun.
“Y..Y/N?” You came back to reality, only to come face to face with Woozi’s flustered expression, and the feeling of fresh tears running down your face.
A smile slowly lit up your face and your infamous eye smile made an appearance after being gone for much too long, “I… I just missed you..”
After pushing past his initial stage of shock, his eyes softened as he stepped close enough to you that the two of you were touching. But what he did next shocked you the most.
He hugged you.
He never initiated hugs.
Ever.
Tightly holding you in his arms, his breath tickled your next as his words came out in a hushed whisper, “I… I missed you too.”

Posted by Pokeminers to Pastebin. We also learn that Arlo is kinda a pompous asshole, at least from what I've read of the challenge quotes. Maybe putting up a front to some extent since him and Candela were close at one point?
