I got a job!!
It’s basically what I was doing before just less steps, no phone calls or answering, higher pay, relatively decent hours, closer to home, room for growth (they want to train me for a managerial position again), and fitting the aesthetic again.
It’s a burial coordinator at a cemetery. Idk what it is about this type of job but it’s very rewarding if you know what you’re doing and pay attention. I enjoy it. And I’m very glad this opportunity came around when it did. I just got kicked off SNAPs for not having a job, got cleared by some of my doctors, dropped by others, and am finally on a better path medically to finally figuring this all out. Just lots more fighting ahead.
I’m also looking to adopt a pup soon, so the finances lining up will help with all of that too. Hopefully, I can find one before summer when my sister has her baby. That way I can start training before the baby comes, like I did with Tobs.
How to Create a Standout Administrative Assistant Resume in 2025
Creating a strong administrative assistant resume is essential if you're looking to land your next job in a competitive office setting. Whether you're just starting out or have years of experience, your resume must clearly show your ability to handle multiple tasks, support executives, and maintain office efficiency. Let’s explore how you can write a compelling resume that gets noticed.
Understand the role of an administrative assistant Before you start writing your resume, it’s important to understand what employers expect. Administrative assistants are often the backbone of the office. They schedule meetings, manage documents, communicate with clients, and help keep operations running smoothly. This means your resume should reflect your organizational skills, attention to detail, and communication abilities.
Choose the right resume format The most recommended format for an administrative assistant is the reverse-chronological resume. This structure focuses on your most recent experiences and shows your growth in the field. If you have gaps or are changing careers, a combination resume might work better, highlighting your skills before listing experience.
Start with a strong professional summary Your resume should open with a summary that captures your top skills and experience in 2–3 sentences. Highlight how long you’ve worked in administrative roles, your main strengths, and any relevant certifications.
Highlight essential skills In your skills section, include both hard and soft skills such as:
Calendar and meeting management
Microsoft Office Suite proficiency
Verbal and written communication
Time management
Problem-solving
Data entry and record keeping
Write clear and tailored work experience In your job history, list your position, the company, how long you worked there, and a few important accomplishments in bullet form. Focus on achievements, not just duties. Use metrics when possible, such as:
“Managed schedules for a team of 10 executives, reducing scheduling conflicts by 30%.”
“Organized and maintained a digital filing system, improving document retrieval time by 40%.”
Include certifications and education Add any certificates you have, like Microsoft Office Specialist, Certified Administrative Professional (CAP), or similar credentials. Make sure to mention your education, at least a high school diploma or higher.
Use examples for inspiration If you’re unsure how to structure your resume or what content to include, reviewing samples can be incredibly helpful. This Administrative Assistant Resume Example provides tips for formatting and keyword placement, helping you build a more professional resume.
Final thoughts A well-written administrative assistant resume can help you stand out in a sea of applicants. By tailoring your resume to the job description, using keywords, and presenting your qualifications clearly, you'll be one step closer to your next job opportunity. Look at resume examples to make sure you’re heading in the right direction.

Hi, I'm hoping to become an administrative assistant and was wondering if you might have any advice? I have an informal interview tomorrow with a lady who may be willing to be my point of reference while applying for a job at a university and if all goes well and I move on to the next steps, I'd love to have a better idea of what to do or say.
Hi! Thank you for asking!
One of the best things you can do is emphasize your ability to deal with ambiguity and prioritize. This is role is an odd one in the business world, because it’s a hybrid of a task-y job and an intuitive self-directed job.
Say you’ll have a ton of things to get done one day. Some of them need to be completed before you can start the others, some are one-off type tasks, some are daily, and only about half of them have all of the information you need. Most of them have to be completed in certain time frame.
Now create a scenario to explain how YOU would approach this to the person interviewing you. Would you make a list? How do you find out more information about a requested task? What if your manager isn’t available and the deadline is in an hour?
Make up a couple of scenarios before you go, and talk them through to yourself. I don’t know what you’ve done for work in the past, but don’t be afraid to use that as inspiration. It’s your experience! That’s good stuff.
And if you get nervous about scheduling meetings and stuff, just remember that weeks still have seven days, no matter what.
