The doors lock softly here like they don’t want to scare you even the clicks are medicated gentle lies dressed as safety

They take your shoelaces your belt anything that might remember what freedom feels like You sign your name anyway a permission slip to be watched

Time doesn’t move straight it paces counts tiles circles the same thought until it wears a groove into your skull

The lights never fully sleep neither do the thoughts at night, despair whispers through paper thin walls crying, laughing, praying all sounding exactly the same

Group therapy smells like coffee and unfinished sentences Everyone speaks in metaphors because saying it plainly might make it real

The meds arrive in tiny cups color coded mercy they don’t fix you they sand the edges down turn screams into static turn feelings into weather reports

You learn the rules quickly don’t say too much don’t say nothing cry quietly heal on schedule

And somehow between checks every fifteen minutes between plastic forks and locked windows you start to miss the chaos because at least it belonged to you

When they finally open the door they call it discharge like you’re a battery that’s been filled just enough to pretend

You walk back into the world wearing borrowed stability carrying a diagnosis like a stamped wrist knowing this place is still inside you quiet, fluorescent and always accepting readmissions
