Hey I was the Dirk standing behind you in line at Shiftylook on Saturday. I stabbed your armor with one of your swords. Do you know of any tutorials I can check out to be able to make my own armor like that? I'd really like to be able to make something awesome like that.
Well, to be honest, there isn’t really much to it. To make armor you just cut out the shapes of the pieces and put them together however you see fit. Mine happens to be lorica segmentata, the armor worn by the soldiers of the Holy Roman Empire. It’s made of a series of iron strips (or whatever material you want) held together by leather on the inside, and pinned together with fittings on the outside.
Below, I’ve provided a few of links that I think will help you get started on making your own set. Lorica’s a good first set to start making armor with, since it’s a repeated pattern for the most part. It’ll help you get used to working with your material of choice, whether it be leather, foam, metal, plastic, or whatever else you can find.
