FROM PAWS (PETS ARE WORTH SAVING) OF ALABAMA:
We introduced our Rescue Village to Mama Maddie and her 5 week-old babies a few days ago. While we did find a foster, Maddie and her babies are currently hospitalized while she undergoes treatment. Maddie is still a kitten herself, but she has been an absolutely INCREDIBLE mama. Even in immense pain, she has continued to nurse and nurture her babies, wanting to be with them at all times. Her vet team has been raving about how sweet and gentle she has been through all of this. 🥰 Maddie came to us with a high fever, severe constipation, a swollen belly, and would yelp in pain if touched near her tummy. We feared a retained fetus or pyometra — but it turns out she has SEVERE mastitis, to the point where one of her teats ruptured and became necrotic. Getting her fever stabilized was a challenge, requiring additional testing to rule out secondary issues. Nothing else was found, thankfully, but it added to an already significant bill. The mastitis is beginning to respond to treatment, though the necrosis has left an open wound requiring ongoing wound care. She'll remain hospitalized through the weekend and be reevaluated Monday to see if she is ready to move to her foster home or will require a bit more intensive care. Her kittens are THRIVING! 🎉 The vet team has been supplementally feeding them to take some pressure off Maddie, and they are gaining weight and getting regular visits from the eyeball fairy! ✨ Maddie's bill is currently just shy of $1,105 — and that's on top of Coco's amputation ($500), emergency intake of 3 dumped Siamese-mix cats (~$250 so far), and $900 in transport costs for 7 kittens to Rhode Island. We are drowning. 😞 Our emergency fund is depleted, and we will have to close to intakes until we can pay these bills down — right in the middle of Kitten Season.💔 Every single dollar helps right now, and we are grateful for any and all donations. They can be made directly to her vet: Taylor Crossing Animal Hospital (Montgomery, Alabama) at (334) 260-8787 under PAWS of Alabama. We also have Venmo/PayPal or DM us for our mailing address for checks. Maddie has fought so hard for her babies — we are committed to fighting just as hard for her. 💗🐾
