“I don’t use magic or power or witchcraft or whatever you want to call it. It’s not who I am.” Two red patches burned on my cheeks.
“It is who you are. It’s in your blood. It’s in your bones. You were born a witch, just as you were born to have blond hair and blue eyes.”

Day 8 | Favourite character arc or character development
Matthew Clairmont, in the space of a minute on screen, turns from a car door opening fossil/gentleman/throwback (depending on your POV) -
.... into an open your own bloody door then feminist -
Actually - I’m being serious. It was a small thing but it showed that Matthew listened to and respected Diana’s POV - and I liked that.

Favorite character development: book Matthew
Book Matthew, in the beginning, was not an easy character to like, let alone love.
When Matthew first learnt that Diana was a accomplished historian, his first thought was that she must have used magic to help her career. Tsk, tsk. Not only was he closed off, he’s snobbish, high handed, at times boarding misogynistic.
Their relationship at the beginning was problematic at best, Matthew essentially stalked Diana all over Oxford. It’s a wonder that Diana didn’t whack him in the head. Guess that’s how you know it’s love.
As the story developed, Matthew learnt to open up to Diana, share his feelings or plans, and to talk things out. We are able to see the nurturing side of Matthew through his interactions with Jack, Annie and the Yale students.
It’s a joy to see how Matthew eventually turn into a sweet adorable dad and husband.
