Miscellaneous thoughts...

*spoilers*

Juliette arrives in Madison and holds Diana hostage. I’m torn between: it was realistic for her to attack Matthew, catching him off guard, especially seeing as though she held Diana by the neck, and could kill her instantly... And what in the actual fuck, aren’t you a 1500 year old vampire who has fought in many wars and stuff?! Anyway, anyway...

When she makes Matthew kiss Diana, it was pretty hot ngl, oop.

Diana kills Juliette with Watchfire which looked really good, I thought.

The aunts, and Marcus and Miriam arrive, and she’s so distraught, angry and protective that she erects a magical shield around her and Matthew as she tries to save his life.

I’m worried about the promise she made in order to receive such power to save Matthew... hmm...

Sarah was a little too quick in telling Diana she should just let him go/die, though...!

After they treat Diana for her wounds, Matthew suggest they hide in time! What?! When I first watched this, I don’t know what I imagined but this is where the story takes a serious tonal turn... (see: SON.)

Domenico is scheming again, and goes to Gerbert...

Gerbert: “You’ve had enough handouts, you greedy little shit.” lololololol

He’s got Satu still, and Gerbert questions her about Diana and Matthew. This is cool because we see none of this in the book due to the perspective it’s being told in.

(I had totally forgotten about some of these scenes because a few times I rewatched the show, I skipped them going straight to the Matthew/Diana scenes. Something I never do. I’m glad I didn’t do it this time and as a result have come to really appreciate them.)

I thought maybe Gerbert was playing Knox because he really just wants to overthrow the de Clermont family, but he is obsessed with the prophecy too, so maybe he’s worried what Diana and her power will bring...

The house starts throwing out random things like Ysabeau’s earring, and Sophie presents the chess piece to Diana but it turns out Matthew lost it in a game with Kit a long time ago... How does the house know? Who does it work for?! Haha 🤪 (Diana, obv.)

I enjoy all the creatures being together, Hamish arrives in Madison with Sophie and Nathaniel and they tell everyone their story, revealing themselves and the truth about their baby.

Diana practices timewalking, and her and Matthew decide to travel back some days to test it out, so they go back to the night they danced together at Sept-Tours, with Ysabeau and Marthe.

The slo-mo of Matthew and Ysabeau dancing is really beautiful, and the way the music changes, and slows is so poignant. <3 The look he gives Diana, and the look of love in return, the pair being in a different place now, emotionally, than they were the first time they danced. Perfect. 💛

Back at the cave with new bff’s Gerbert and Knox: Gerbert tells Knox that after Baldwin, Matthew would take his place as head of the congregation, but since they’re trying to get rid of them, the next in line would be Marcus. (But isn’t Marcus technically a de Clermont?)

“...to unusual friendships,” Sarah says as she toasts the conventicle of creatures gathered in her house.

Matthew and Hamish talk about the Knights having to fight the congregation in order to protect Diana, and Sophie’s new family.

Gerbert outs the Knights of Lazarus to the rest of the congregation, and some of them begin to turn on Baldwin. Agatha steps up, and calls for a vote. In a surprising move, Domenico votes against Gerbert and in favour of Baldwin keeping his seat, and staying on as head of the congregation. I loved this, yes!!! (I was worried for a sec 🥺)

He later tells Baldwin, “You’ll be hearing from me.” And similarly, Agatha tells Baldwin, “You owe us a debt.”

Everyone begins to leave Madison, and it was nice to see some father-son stuff between Matthew and Marcus. When they hugged 💖

Matthew (and his hair) and Diana in their ye olde shirts was cute.

Gerbert, Knox and Satu arrive at the house just as Matthew and Diana are about to timewalk, and there’s a shield on it so they can’t get in. (This is not in the book.)

Also not in the book, and in true TV cliffhanger fashion, there’s a bit of a tease implying that Diana and Matthew might get separated during their timewalk to 1590... 🕯

And just like that, it’s over again. 🥺😭🖤

- Marcus and Nate getting along and having shared belief systems is everything. It’s time for a new Congregation… It’s time to do away with the old guard

- Matt and Hamish’s moments are my favorite, I hope we get more in S2

- Nate’s courage and bravery

FURTHER THOUGHTS: the ending might not be all that bad bc (without spoilers) if Diana can think quick enough to repeat what she’s doing now but say 10mins earlier, everything might work out. Idek if that makes sense, my brain is currently running in circles and I’m freaking out lol
