Liz Lokre releases new music video for 'Buh Bye'!
Pop-Soul Singer/Songwriter Liz Lokre has released the new music video for her single Buh Bye! Directed by Sean McBride and Caroline Torti, the sultry dance floor anthem was funded in part by MUCHFact, where it had its premiere on MUCH TV. The track was produced by Toronto musician Adrian X (Drake, The Weeknd, PartyNextDoor) and Jordan Reyes of BASECAMP, and has hit up playlists around the world on Spotify, New Music Friday lists, and Apple Music’s Best Of The Week – Breaking R&B while racking up over 130K plays along the way. Lokre explains that “this song is about the journey towards empowerment and how good it feels to confidently say ‘Buh Bye’ to anything that was holding me back”.
Lokre (formerly known as Liz Loughrey) hails from Toronto, Canada. Last year, she released her debut single Rise Up!, a Caribbean-flavored track which received global acclaim on blogs and playlists (read all about the inspiration for Rise Up here). A writer/performer since the age of twelve, music runs deep in her family with a grandmother and mother who were acclaimed dancers, and a father who booked live shows in Ireland. Finding inspiration from legends like Stevie Wonder, Sade and Alicia Keys, she shared a vocal coach with The Weeknd, and was recommended to Adrian X, a guitarist and music director for live bands like Drake, The Weeknd, and PartyNextDoor. Drawing on their shared love of R&B, reggae, international pop and elements of the ‘Toronto sound’, together they created the new sound of the LZL collective.
Check out the new video and connect with Liz below to get all her latest updates. You can download the song on iTunes and all streaming platforms today. And pick up a hat and button just in time for the weekend!

WorldArts Featured Artist: Liz Loughrey
Liz Loughrey is a Toronto-based soul/pop artist with a hot new sound and a rapidly growing (and devoted) fanbase. Blending soulful sounds with an uplifting message for positive change, Loughrey is a genuinely old soul who creates a brand of pop that speaks to the past and signals a bright future. Greatly influenced by legendary artists like Etta James, Bob Marley, Alicia Keys, and Sade, Liz got her start singing in church and playing piano. “Once I started songwriting at the age of 12, music just became a way of life and my best form of expression. I really don’t know what I would do without it.”
She wrote and produced her latest single “Rise Up” in Miami along with Adrian X (The Weeknd, Drake, Kylie Minogue) and Supa Dups (Drake, Party Next Door, Bruno Mars, Mary J Blige). The track has racked up over 160K plays on Spotify, which along with her YouTube channel, has given her over 3 million views. The song defines her entire approach to music and life; to provide “that sense of bringing people together, that sense of calling people to come out of their comfort zone.” “Rise Up” wasn’t written with activism in mind, “but this is what it’s become,” she says. The video is a compilation of clips from around the world portraying devastation and inspiration. She’s also started the #RiseUpMovement which “encourag(es) people to focus on their strengths, on what their gifts are and what they can give back.” On her days off from touring, she hosts workshops in middle schools to talk about the importance of self-esteem. “Rise Up” is the foundation, the tone of what I want to do,” she says, “it’s a reason why I sing.”
She is currently in the studio between Toronto & L.A. working on her new EP which will be released this year, with a new single coming out in the Spring. Liz is thrilled to be back in the City of Angels to perform at the iconic Hotel Café this Friday. “Playing these songs acoustically allows me to share my stories in a raw and uninhibited way. I love performing in Los Angeles and the energy I feel here always makes for a special show!” Come out and see Liz, performing with Adrian X on guitar, in the parlour room at The Hotel Café in Hollywood on Friday, February 10th at 7PM! Tickets are $10. For more information, join the Event page on Facebook.
