Women in Mahabharata - Adrika
Many generations later, she appears noted as an 'apsara' who, with Uparichara Vasu, mothers the twins Matsya and Satyavati. The king appoints, in due time, Matsya as his commander and abandons little Kaali Satyavati, who undoubtedly leaves her twin behind in glory, and ends up as the matriarch of the illustrious Kuru family.
Here, Vasu is probably not the vanshakara-king of Matsya, but simply a descendant who ruled in a nearby area, and Adrika is most probably a woman local to the kingdom of Matsya, with a family background 'low' enough for her identity to have been obscured in this manner.
It is also interesting that her name is the same as the original queen of this area, Girika, in the literary sense. Girika is also mentioned as part of this myth, but is not an active participant.
