Another book review for you! #abookiread ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This time, a cookbook! I won’t claim to be an expert on food or cooking, but I think I’m pretty close to expert level at eating food. So that’s why I feel I have merit in reviewing a cookbook. It’s the first one that, from us, has a 100% delicious rating from the recipes we’ve made. It is the *fairly* new @smittenkitchen book by @debperelman. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I read an interview she did. The interviewer asked her why she didn’t hire professional photographers or writers. She said that she wanted to be the one to create genuine content for her readers. And then at the end she added, “...and I’m lazy.” Which I thought was hilarious. One thing we talk about often is the fact that when we’re done with school we won’t have built in long breaks at random times throughout the year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We try really hard to live it up when there is no homework or tests or projects. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Often that turns into feeling lazy, or stressed that we’re not YOLO-ing(do the kids still say that?). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Sometimes though we plan a few fun things and then fill the rest with what we feel like we want to do in the moment. This break ended up being one of those times. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Other times we usually end up reminding each other that this is our vacay time and it’s okay to do what we want. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Do you have any tricks for soaking in your break time? Looking at pictures of me pregnant kind of makes my stomach turn. That’s just not me, I’m not eternally pregnant so I see this and it just makes me uncomfortable. ⠀⠀ But the reason I’m posting this is because I wrote out the story of when we found out I was pregnant with Alice. ⠀⠀ If you’ve had any form of contact with us in the last year and a half we’ve probably already told you this story. And for the other 3 people on the planet that we haven’t told well here it is. Or there it is, on my blog. ⠀⠀ It’s not an especially interesting story but I think it’s funny. Sometimes someone says something and even though it may be an idea you’ve heard a thousand times it was the way that someone said it that actually made that something stick to your heart. The piece I just posted on my blog is one of those somethings. We all know we’re capable of change. We all know we can be better than we used to be. But maybe this time, the way I’ve explained it will actually make you feel that you are capable of being better. I hope you’ll read it. Three years ago while I was teaching, I loopholed my way into using the movie The Secret Life of Walter Mitty in my classroom. Not really a loophole, the movie is actually based on a short story written a long time ago—fair game in English teacher land. . . My students were not happy. The short story is really boring if you don’t know what to look for. And I wanted to discuss the movie but my students just wanted watch it while they picked their noses. After a lot of heel-digging they finally got into it and we came up with some pretty good stuff. ⠀⠀ . . To quote myself, “My students and I came up with a theory: telling someone or telling yourself to ‘live your dreams’ is stupid.” ⠀⠀ . .
