Our Song Pick of the Day comes from Adryelle a Baltimore-based artist who is currently traveling the country to inspire kids in schools with concerts and speeches . Fortunately she has found time to release a new song “The Morning”, a mostly acoustic piece as opposed to her previous electronic work. Released Today: Adryelle - Deep Blue Water (feat. StarBoy)

U&U Interview :: Adryelle

Baltimore-based songstress, Adryelle, is bringing her own unique sound to the music scene. With her recently released fifth album, The Waiting Room, she is making moves with her own version of "dreampop" and a message that life is a beautiful thing. We got the chance to interview Adryelle on her latest album, her past in the industry and everything in between. You can read the exclusive interview below!

First let’s talk about the beginning of your career. How did you begin with the music industry and get to where you are now?

Adryelle: I've been playing music ever since I was little. In middle school and high school I would write poetry and decided to try to put it to music. I wrote my first song when I was 12 and ever since then I would write. I never thought it would go anywhere other than my room, but then me, my brother, and my boyfriend at the time started a band in our garage. It was heavily influenced by Nirvana, Hole, and other grunge bands. We never played anywhere, just the garage, and our neighbors LOVED that :-p. When I was 18 I decided I would write an album under the name "Black Rose Cinema" on my own and play all of the instruments. That was the beginning of when I realized "hey I could do this myself". 

What do you think is the biggest lesson you’ve learned over the years?  

Adryelle: Pray, work hard, stay humble and take one step at a time. Don't give up and if you are rejected, keep going. 

How would you describe you sound and how do you think it has changed over time? 

Adryelle: My first project had an electronic/goth/Cure sound to it. Then for a while it was just me and the piano, but a mentor of mine told me that there are a million girl-and-piano acts. She told me "find out what makes you unique." At the time I had been pondering for awhile about going back to my roots of electronic music, so I decided to merge the two and started to write more synth based stuff. I would consider it 'dreampop" because it is pop, yet has a dream-like vibe to it.

Your latest album, The Waiting Room, was released independently. What was that process like?

Adryelle: Yes, when I decided I wanted to do electronic stuff again, I just started to mess around with creating beats in Reason. I wrote about 20 of them and then I picked the ones I wanted to develop more. I would move them over to Pro Tools and add some other instruments to them. That's basically how the process was until everything was mixed. I did write The Shoreline at another studio "The Lineup Room" and Brandon Lackey engineered and mixed that song. Most of the vocals to all the songs were recorded by John Marking at Studio 10. tuffzNӢG3

What/Who would you say influences you when it comes to writing your music? 

Adryelle: A lot of stories, movies and books. Poems, nature, people, God. I'm a visual person so I tend to see things before I write. As far as the actual music goes: hiphop is an influence currently as well as more ethereal type music. 

How would describe the album? What is the message behind The Waiting Room? 

Adryelle: The Waiting Room is about how we all have a purpose no matter how old or young. Being in The Waiting Room is about waiting for the next stage in life whatever that might be. There is still a purpose even if it seems like you might just be waiting around for something to happen. That could include a kid waiting to grow up, or an old person waiting to die. 

What are some of your favorite tracks from the album? 

Adryelle: My favorite tracks are “The Waiting Room” and “Never Let Me Go.” 

What’s coming up for you in the future? 

Adryelle: I've started to work on another album. Hopefully it will be ready for a release in June or in the fall sometime.

INTERVIEW: Adryelle

Infectious Magazine recently had the opportunity to chat with up and coming Baltimore artist, Adryelle. Channeling the sounds of Tori Amos, Depeche Mode and Young Marble Giants, Adryelle recently unveiled her fifth release,The Waiting Room. Speaking about the album she says, “The Waiting Room is about life and death. The album is up to interpretation, but ultimately it is about hope, in the sense that we can be OK where we are currently, and that everyone has a purpose in life. If you are alive, then you have a reason to live.”
