Mid Term Contract: Advanced Drawing
CONCEPT: I want my body of work to say…“Everyone has their own personality.” “Everyone is unique.” “It’s okay to be yourself.”
Since most of my subject are unknown to the viewers I would like to draw and paint people in a way that brings out the best in whom the individual. The individual artworks will reflect the overall concept by showing the viewers how recognizable the subject is, especially going threw the types of mediums. I want to use many colors to represent the subject’s personality. The changes that I have made since my statement of intent is that I’m going to head towards making the best out of people and how they want to be viewed. Instead of me drawing and painting crazy looking people how I originally thought of and to paint with watercolor.
FORMAL: I hope to improve my drawing skills by drawing people I know to show their personality. I plan to sketch it out in pencil, then ink it with pen, and add some color with watercolor to match their personality, emotion, or just the reality of the face.
From all the research, I have learned that everyone is different and unique in their own way. The experimental work from the beginning of the semester (drawing many faces on notes cards) has influenced my goals in such a way that I want to add in painting. I feel that painting can really emphasize the subject’s face. The formal decisions and materials that I choose will relate to my concept by how I think the subject is best viewed to the audience. For example, if I think that a photograph or person is very colorful then I will add color to a drawing to really show the audience my subject is meant to be viewed “this” way.
SPECIFICS - My final body of work will be:
1) 14”x17” Bristol board of ink and water color of my friend Kennedy Bryd and her dog. Also some of the watercolor will be metallic colors.
2) 17”x14” Bristol board watercolor painting of Camille Cason. She is my sister’s second child, my 3 year old niece.
PLUS two more in addition later.
So far, my personal time table looks busy with 10 hours of work for each final. If more hours are put into them later, that would be great, just right now, I’m letting life happen and looking over my concept before I jump too far into it.
By 3/29 I should have the two or three final pieces done and already started drawing out my ideas for my next finals.
GOALS:
I hope that I learned a lot about the human face, emotions, and personality. I hope that I accomplish my goals of my concept. I am improving in my work from all the hard labor of many different faces from the beginning studies, I am improving my painting skills as each day passed from all the practice and finals I’m doing.
