So, as part of my boss's push last year for the team to network more, I joined an advisory committee for the small city I work in. Half way through my first meeting, there's elections for committee leadership. Every other member on this advisory committee gave some shitty ass excuses* on why they couldn't be the Chair. Which left me, half way through my very first meeting, being elected Committee Chair.
As part of my exciting duties as Chair, I get to use Robert's Rules of Order to conduct each meeting. The problem is, I haven't used Robert's Rules since college. And when I used it back then, it was for Model UN. Which I had only joined because it was a club at my university where if you paid $75 to be a part of, you got a free trip to Chicago.
So, all this is to say, I don't remember anything about Robert's Rules and that I bumble my way through every committee meeting motion now. At least I'm networking though? And making sure the city is using the correct terminology for things?

THE DISTRICT OF SAANICH 2020 MUNICIPAL APPOINTMENTS TO ADVISORY COMMITTEES / FOUNDATION / BOARDS
The District of Saanich is accepting applications from residents wishing to be involved in local government by sitting as a member of an Advisory Committee, Board or Foundation. Appointments effective 2020 are made by Saanich Council and are generally for a one year term. If you would like to serve your community we encourage you to apply.
ADVISORY COMMITTEES:
The Council Advisory Committees listed below deal with a wide range of municipal topics. Most meet on a monthly basis except in July, August and December. The purpose of the technical Advisory Design Panel is to advise Council or the Director of Planning on the design merits of plans supporting specific public and private development applications. The commitment is a 2 year term.
