what is a book you read this year about which you felt ambivalent 🤓
birding without borders: an obsession, a quest, and the biggest year in the world by noah strycker... a very odd little book about strycker attempting a Big Year record, i.e. seeing more bird species in one year than anyone else globally. this book suffered from a paradoxical problem: it should have been more about the people strycker interacted with, but strycker would have to be less fixated on birds for that to happen, and if he were less fixated on birds the whole project never would have taken place. still lots of really great descriptions of birds in there.
