Guys.
My weekly mileage is finally winding up to 40+ miles. My long runs are getting l o n g e r. My weekday runs are getting longer. I’m running 5 to 6 days a week right now. Im running anywhere from 3-10 miles weekdays with added lifting twice a week (gotta get dem strong glutes) and hot yoga. (building a big, strong base right now and it just takes time and steady patience.)
That 9 miles I ran the other day was pretty much done fasted and depleted, which meant my body turned into a bottomless dumpster pit for 24 hours after that. I guess I didn’t really expect to go out and run 9 miles like that.
I track my food from time to time just to see where I’m at and........ I ate at least 3,000 calories the following day to recover. I could not get full. Maybe I didn’t fuel properly immediately afterwards. But upwards of 3,000 calories later and I’m finally feeling good, strong, not depleted anymore and was able to get back at it, but mannnnnnnnn just seeing that number and not feeling like I hit my limit was scary. And feeling that depleted was NOT a feeling I liked. I guess I needed it. The feeling just surprised me and the following day was my weekly rest day so it startled me even more to feel that empty all day on my rest day. I know sleep has a lot to do with recovery too, and I really didn’t get much sleep that night which probably had something to do with needing extra recovery. But I think overall I need to focus on more satiating, (specifically) filling foods that make me feel less like a monster with a black hole for a stomach. I thought I was doing a good job of it but after one day like that....... sheesh. Never again. Give me all the satisfying protein and carbs.
