OK! So, I'm so glad Reddie is cannon but I feel like Andy/ Stephen/It Team could have given Eddie a queer storyline as well. I mean they really hinted to it. In the first movie, Eddie mentions a friend of his mother's getting AIDS via hangnail on the subway, which isn't how AIDS works, but knowing Eddie's mother she probably lied to him about how it works just to keep him in her grasp. So, this started an idea in Eddie's head that being gay is gross and is a disease and mostly the beginning of the internalized homophobia. In the book and the movie, Pennywise appears to Eddie as a leaper, symbolizing his hypochondriasis instilled by his mother. But in the book, the leaper asks Eddie for a favor, a blow job. This is a representation of Eddie's ideas of being gay as a disease and show more of his internalized homophobia. He's mother grasp never really leaves him. As an adult, Eddie marries a woman exactly like his mother, even down to her looks. This just has him further pushing down his homosexuality. I truly believe he married Myra not only out of his mommy issues but because Eddie always wanted to please his mother. Eddie always had a soft spot for his mother, no matter how abusive she truly was. In the 2019 sequel, Eddie must retrieve his token from the pharmacy. This scene is quite a good look into Eddie's inner thoughts. The movie flashes back to a younger Eddie at the pharmacy picking up a prescription. Eddie lured down the basement of the Pharmacy, by cries of help from his mother. As he entered the grim cover basement, he is surrounded by bags of blood. He does his best to avoid the blood and IV's but after tripping into one it starts a cascade of spirting blood all over Eddie. After getting away from the blood, he finds his mother tied to an operating table. She's crying "Eddie please he's going to infection" "Eddie get me out". We are then shown the leper coming for them. Eddie does his best to free his mother, but his fear wins out and bolts, leaving Sonia Kasprback behind to get the leper's tongue shoved down her throat. Then the movie flashes forward to Adult Eddie who is standing in the same basement and is attacked by the same leper, which tries to kiss him, and shove its tongue down His throat. Eddie defeats the leper by choking it. This whole scene is a representation of Eddie's struggles with his sexuality. This shows the thought of being told by not only his mother but also society that being gay is a disease. By defeating the leper in the present, it shows that slowly he is overcoming his internalized homophobia. The grip his mother had on him has loosened in a new way. There are also parallels between Eddie and Adrian Melon, the gay man at the beginning of the film. Adrian is shown to be asthmatic and the only other character we see with an inhaler. There is also Richie's joke at Eddie being married to a woman. Riche seems almost surprised as if every thought he was gay. That's all I can think of. If you guys think of anymore or noticed more, feel free to add on!! If you have any from the book or the first movie, because I tried to only really talk about the second movie, also feel free to add on
Listen if you’re not Michael from The Lost Boys 1987 or Louis from Interview with the Vampire 1994 are you really every girls vampire dream?
