day 4 for restraintstiel week, a challenge Cas experiences Things in the form of physical restraint (hosted by @valdelion and @niceworkhuggybear). for this challenge, @lazarus-rose and I have collaborated to create fics and fic art for each of the prompts :00

I started coming up with the idea for this piece actually way in the beginning of seeing the prompt, when laz and I first started talking about collabing on these. I knew I wanted to flip the expectations a bit and have the living restraint prompt be a bear hug (Cas needs more hugs guys). I came up with a few different designs that will probably be posted independently eventually maybe (assuming I ever finish them), but we eventually had the idea of creating octopus creature!dean and mermaid!cas for mermay yayy. always wanted to do mermay but always forgot it even existed or was too busy to do anything ,_, (laz came up with the sea monster eating people idea though, unsurprisingly. I promise eating people was not in my original idea draft guys. it's a fun contrast though considering the art is inspired by the movie Luca loool)

I tried a whole new drawing program for this one called Affinity Designer, which is vector based (as opposed to raster based/pixels like I'm used to). I still don't really know how to color on it. thank @blueeyesblueties for being extremely patient with me and helping me figure out how to use the program (I really needed the help guys I was/am a total disaster and uh likely would've given up 5 curves in otherwise tbh). it's still fitting though since a bonus challenge I've been doing for this week is pushing myself to try new art styles/techniques, and you can't get much more new than an entirely different art program ow. also I'm aware the fish shapes in the background look weird but they were fun to draw like that so I kept them
