there are many many many good reasons to avoid Tumblr Discourse(tm), but i think the reason a lot of it becomes an infohazard to my brain specifically is just how many posts out there are trying so so hard to convince me that i personally Hate whole groups of people. it gives me a headache AND it's such a bummer
#like of course the posts arent directed at ME by name but theyre written in such a way that they antagonize the reader by design#and i get that they are written from a place of very valid pain and frustration and the only thing within arms reach is some guy on tumblr#but it really fucks me up to read posts like that. so i try not to#the ocd spiral tends to go something like -#i know i am a flawed person in a position of immense privilege and i will have my biases and blind spots and all kinds of shortcomings#and there is no reason for me to seek forgiveness from some internet rando to confirm that i am One Of The Good Ones#for bravely not doing whatever pattern they are describing#because doing that in and of itself would be a microaggression#but also i would only be met with bad faith and distrust because whatever i would say or do would be construed as to be a slight#against them#and if i were to suggest that mayhaps this pattern is mostly present in a very particular online bubble. well#either i am wrong and a victim of my own naive ignorance. or i am trying to shut down the complaints of a vulnerable and oft ignored group#and no matter how much i try to stay educated and listen to people with other experiences than me how can i ever fully trust#my own perception of the world#and what if i only THINK i am working against stigmatizing biases but in actuality i am still corrupted with societal hatred#or that if i think i love and care for this demographic i am putting them on an unfair pedestal and burdening and dehumanizing them#and - none of this is happening it's all just the spiral it just keeps going forever#i just need to trust my brain sometimes and not try to have fictional arguments in my brain to convince someone i don't actually hate them#(YES people trying to convince me that im actually evil and sinister and have bad intentions is also a trauma thing for me how did you know)
