My review about Miraculous World: Tokyo, Stellar Force
I publish a new review of a Miraculous special episode:. This is Miraculous World: Tokyo, Stellar Force.
The TV Special has been aired in 1st November 2025. It happens too late for making my review today but I write it anyway.
The Paris review here
The London review here
This post contains spoilers.
And now, time to read:
Plot:
This happens during the Summer vacation after the epilogue of the episode Re-Creation (5.26). Just after Marinette had finished to turn the kwamis' miraculouses to their basic forms (she designed both theses as in a cutest form). So, the Miraculous Team (future Miraculers) is reactived. It happens before the first school day at the new Françoise Dupont school (6.12 and 6.14 scenes) and the training of the team in Revelator (6.11) prologue.
Kagami/Ryuko and Felix/Argos secretly join each other (both with the Space potion) for a date over the English Channel. But their date is interupted when Ryuko learns about a Kaiju attack in Tokyo. So, she sees Marinette/Ladybug for asking her help for the situation in Tokyo. She even brings her from Paris to Japan for assist the Japanese superhero team from the Kano Academy for teamwork. In fact, Kagami wants to clean issues about her past life there that makes her remorseful and ashamed of heartbreak Kazuno (her former crush before going to Paris).
I've learned about new elements in the Miraculous lore by watching the special:
This special includes 2D animation for the story part in Tokyo.
They exist another concept of magical power outside the miraculouses itselves (like the Prodigious held by Fei and the Maino'li's Hummingbird Jewel beared by Irupé): The Stellar Matrix and its Sprites.
Tikki and other kwamis have a multilanguage ability. They can make their holders be able to understand and speak other languages than their latter's native languages. Too bad that Tikki hasn't used that earlier on Marinette while she was in Shanghai (the bluenette cannot speak her ancestors' languages (Mandarin, Cantonese).
A Japanese superhero team called Stellar Force is active at Tokyo. It's a squad of 12 students from the Kano Academy (an international special school based on sports studies). Together, they transform into Sentai-like rangers with the Stellar Sprites for fight against the kaijus, monsters summoned by the Moddler. They can summon their respective weapons (a blade for Miki/Leo, a laser for Pili/Aries).
The Kagami's backstory:
At Tokyo, the Tsurugi heiress was homeschooled until she was 14. Once she is 14 years old, Kagami goes to the Kano Academy after she managed to success a test from Tomoe (the test: To prevent her ring (where her amok is contained inside)). At the Academy, She met Miki (a blond kickboxing girl), Kazuno (a shy and clumsy boy who practizes judo) and the Stellar squad. The latters and the rest of the group weren't the superheroes yet in this period. Kagami sought to befriend with other students and she finally spends time with Kazuno. The two of them became friends but Kagami fell in love with the boy. Meanwhile, the boy was already in love with her childhood friend Miki. When Tomoe decides to go to Paris and brings Kagami with her in France (connection to the episode Riposte), the daughter feels worried, nervous and insecure. While she tells to Kazuno that she leaves Tokyo and while she tries to give a encouraging letter (for helping him to confess his love to Miki), the discussion goes wrong: Kagami inadvertently hurts Kazuno's feelings and flees away. And now, the remorseful fencing girl wants to fix that and she requests the Marinette/Ladybug's help for this issue.
So, Kagami has been a co-main protagonist for the Special (alongside with Marinette).
During the trip, Kagami and Marinette sleep at the Tsurugi's Dorayaki Shop. Nozomi, the former's maternal grandmother's (and Tomoe's mother) owns the shop. Moreover, the grandma has a (love) partnership with Shinobu a old gyaru woman and also the saleswoman.
The Moddler is the main antagonist of the Special. He is an alien who has his spaceship gets crashed on Earth. He has some monsters-like assistants who obey to him.
The alien supervillain seeks to take all the fragments of the Stellar Matrix. So he forms an army of kaijus (human people transformed by the supervillain) and sends this army for attacking the city.
However, the Moddler works with another evil enemy who is more dangerous than him: The Supreme.
In this Special, The Supreme appears under the form of a "Sauron Eye" form. So, he hasn't any human form (unless it's the Supreme of the Quantic universe instead of the one from the Re-Verse).
There is teamwork problems between the Stellar Force members (since Kazuno has been emotionally hurt because of Kagami's tragic words). So, Ladybug and Ryuko come to assist them.
Kazuno/Capricorn has the special ability of seeing the modules (that the Moddler uses for turn people into kaijus).
Kagami/Ryuko finally manages to apologize toward Kazuno/Carpicorn for the emotional damages she caused to him and she even encourages him to confess his feelings to Miki.
The Kazuno-Miki relationship sometimes mirrors the Marinette-Adrien relationship from during the four (4) first seasons of the show.
There is also the Hoshimatsuri (a Japanese festival that happens in the 7th day of the 7th month (in approximatively July/August)).
The Stellar Force can summon their own mega robot (mecha/megazord). More again, the squad can perform the Miraculous Stellar Force spell for repair all the damages caused in Tokyo during the final battle (exactly like the Miraculous Ladybug cure).
Kagami has finally got her actual hairstyle she has actually in Season 6. Marinette even decides to create her new own look once they return to Paris: Her current outfit from Season 6.
The Stellar Force will get his own spin-off series (The United Heroez and Lady Dragon are still on waiting and the Re-Verse is likely planned to be resumed under the comic format).
What I liked:
The 2D animation format for this episode. The animation switch between CGI and 2D during transitions from Paris to Tokyo.
The Marinette's moments when she acts like a shonen-comedic protagonist in 2D.
The references to the anime and Japanese culture (Kamen Rider, Super Sentai).
The last battle of the good guys' mega robots (mecha) against giant Kaijus.
The Kagami's story (before the episode Riposte).
The scenes between Marinette and Kagami.
Kiss (a Stellar Force member, not the kiss) acting charming toward Marinette for a few seconds. 😏
Kazuno's and Miki's introductions in the lore. Plus the rest of the squad.
The Pili/Aries' moments. He is comedic too.
The United Heroez' comeback and Cat Noir's stand against the giant Hand in the end scene.
What I disliked:
There isn't any Adrien/Cat Noir's form in 2D animation. A missed opportunity. For sure, Ladybug and Ryuko are the main protagonists of the Special but there is a too long time Adrien isn't a co-main protagonist since the London special. Let's hope he will aura farms for the sequel.
The Supreme's Sauron-alike form. Meanwhile, I'm sure it is still not his real form.
What I want to know for the future:
The Supreme lets spectators getting more additional questions about himself.
Who is the Supreme ? Human or Deity ? Big Brother (1984, George Orwell) ? How do s/he looks like ?
There was the questions I wrote for the Paris Special review in 21st October 2023. I thought he could be a human who became a god-alike in his home universe. But
And the new questions:
What are the Supreme's goal(s) in the Tokyo Special ?
What is his backstory ?
And where does he know Ladybug (Not the Re-Verse Ladybug/ex-Shadybug) from ? Ladybug knows the Supreme's existence since the Paris special. But it implies that the superheroine already confronted him somewhere in Season 5 period. When I tell "confront" I would mean Not directly but by proxy.
About Félix/Argos:
What has been his story for being part of the Miraculers (since the Re-Creation episode conclusion) ?
Argos is now forgiven by Ladybug and Kagami/Ryuko. But how Argos has finally got the Cat Noir's and other Miraculers' trust ? It can show his full redemption arc (as more developped). It globally happened during the summer (Between the London Special, pool scene, Miraculouses' restoration, Miraculous team' reassembling, the Miraculers' training in the Revelator prologue (6.11)).
ML Theory:
The Supreme told to the Moddler that he already saw Ladybug in action. That implies that the evil deity and the Ladybug girl have their paths got crossed somewhere between in Season 5 and before the Tokyo special.
The most coherent scenario as possible is that they possibly confronted against each other in an upcoming special (Rio special alongside with Cat Noir, Luka and possibly Irupé(?) as her supports) but without forcibly that they saw or interacted each other. So, in a moment after the Paris special, Ladybug surely wasted one of the Supreme's sinister plans. And the Supreme considered this Marinette's counterpart as a real threat to his own agenda.
My personal aggregation on the Tokyo Special:
Result: 9.5/10
The salting moment:
The Supreme still remains a mystery in this show.
Argos should bring his support during the Marinette's and Kagami's Tokyo trip. But he remained at London. He seems useless in the story development since the Season 5 finale (just after Representation (5.24)).
Marigami vibes in the special but they are already in couple with their respective boys.
