So, this meme went around ages ago

Rules: List 5 quotes from various fics you love and link to the fics! Quotes can be short or long. Tag as many people as you want!

And in trying to participate, ya friend here (me, your friend is me) realized that I absolutely do not remember writings that way, despite loving banter to a very unhealthy degree. I remember scenes visually as being verbally tangy, which makes no fucking sense but eh, human brains.

However! I found the single exception to the rule, probably only retained because it's literally one word:

"Woof."

The story is Loosed Reigns by @aggressivewhenstartled and my bookmark for it just says "THIS IS THE WOOF ONE" which truly speaks volumes about my regard for it.

If the tags etc seem like your thing, do yourself a favor and read it. The characters are complex (INCLUDING Sally Donovan, be still my lady-loving heart), the case is icky-fun, there are some laugh-out-loud moments, the sex is brilliant, and it's just generally excellently fucking crafted.

Peter gets underestimated. Everyone calls him “kid,” as if he’s not part of the Avengers. Well anyway, contrary to what the others may think, he does notice things. Being in high school is good for something. Noticing when people have crushes, for one.

Nobody else seems to notice the way Captain America looks at the Winter Soldier. Peter is still not sure how to act around Cap. He’s a little intimidating, not a very approachable guy. He always looks very severe and serious and to be honest, Peter’s arms still hurt when he thinks about the fight at the airport. But when Steve’s looking at the Winter Soldier, he looks a lot more approachable. Softer, somehow. Peter likes him better that way. Not that he’d ever dare say that to Captain America’s face. He’s not in any hurry to die again. Anyway, the point is, Cap clearly has it bad for his best friend.
