Slipped Disc

agnes-perditax-nitt - OOC: I am a huge Discworld Fan just so you know what rabbit hole you have fallen down. HELLO! LET THE UNCANNY CROSSOVER BEGIN! Long post, so continued after the ‘read more’! May contain Cabbages. --------

In the vast open flats of the wasteland, storms were not uncommon. Sometimes they rolled in without warning, great funnels of air crackling at the sky, drawn in by the miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles of sand. The War Boys were trained for such events, the appropriate maneuvers, the theoretical etiquette, when it was best to simply bunker down, wait for it to pass and dig their hulls out later...

... But nothing they had learned could prepare them for what had erupted so quick and so sudden.... 

“HOLD TIGHT, SLIT, WE HAVE THIS!!” Nux screamed as he hurried to haul the sunroof closed, the sky ripping itself to shreds above him in a whirlwind of sound and light. The clouds clawed frantically, and he could feel the sand under his tires leap and shift, his heart in his throat. Just keep it level, use the wind to your advantage, land-surfing... He’d done it before, he could do it again.  He couldn’t see the other pursuit vehicles, save for tiny black dots hidden between the mile-wide funnels that flickered with the crackling sky. He could dimly hear his Lancer’s frantic pounding on the glass, but any advice or direction his partner might have had was lost in the storm. 

Another flash and a crack and the car was sent flying, a brilliant bolt thrust from the earth, sand melting to glass beneath him and the vehicle went spinning.  There was no time to think, his senses overwhelmed, his goggles useless as the air itself seemed to be filled with lightening, as though it was ripping through the very fabric of the universe...

... Which, had the War Boy been born in an entirely different place and an entirely different situation and noticed the strange color unlike any other color edging each massive bolt, staining the glass beneath him in curling tendrils of excess energy, wasn’t far from the truth. 

The car lurched, bucked, and before he could even register his poor Lancer thrown from the back, was lifted into the air and the world was sent tumbling.

Not like this not soft in the storm no I’m better than this not alone not here not now-!! 

Nux’s life flashed before his eyes, and he was more than a little disappointed.

There was only a few moments to dwell on it, at least, and as suddenly as the storm had swept over them, it was gone, the sky clear and blue as the earth arched up to meet his wheels with a crash and a burst of pent up speed and kicked up dirt and green and mud and before his brain could catch up with what was happening, it was all Nux could do to hold on tight and slam on his breaks, swerving in a wide arch to a rumbling stop. 

For several minutes, he could only stare. There was no sign of the convoy. In fact, there was no sign of the desert. Where the gnarled dunes should have been were rolling hills of dark, rich brown soil combed into careful, even rows, seemingly riveted with round pale green things about the size of his head. A more educated man would have immediately identified them as ‘cabbages’, but as far as Nux was concerned, he had been sucked up onto the moon.  

He didn’t dare move from the driver’s seat, eyes wide as he scanned the horizon, even as his engine rumbled and whined and went silent in an exhausted hiss of sand and heat and steam. 

There in the distance, where the cliffs of the citadel should have stood, or even a hint of a glimmer of Gas Town or the Bullet Farm should have been was something else entirely. 

“What the bloody... Where in...” Was this Valhalla? He hadn’t even chromed, he hadn’t even felt it- 

A high pitched noise broke him from his shock, and he blinked out of one emergency to another, the groaning sounds of aching metal and the sudden sparks erupting from his engine. “No- NO NO NO NO Hold on, girl, you got this, you got this!!” Scrambling from the cab, he tripped over a ridge of torn ground, frantically lifting what covers he could to let the heat and steam exhaust, burning fingers or not.

Yep. As a writer, I also refuse to paint abusive behaviour as anything but wrong and gross. Doesn't mean I don't like your interpretation; I so enjoy writing Agnes trying to deflect his douchiness. >=D

exactly! he’s completely reprehensible 99% of the time. like he has very few, if any, redeemable moments. he’s literally just the worst.
