Merdinger's compositions depict her childhood being spent in a refugee camp in Kirgizstan, USSR during World War II; these memories resurface in her paintings as conceptual, organic forms, which, coupled with the scale of the works, allows them to appear as large and striking as they would have been to a child. The abstraction of the ground behind the natural forms also lends the works a dreamlike quality and removes them from reality. I feel in love with this piece by the sweet and gifted Spanish artist, Isabel Conde Marin! This piece is named "Alone" - amazingly painted with Acrylic and Charcoal on canvas over a long duration of time. I felt connected with this painting that she describes as "finding peace and relaxation". As a stressed out and overbooked young finance professional - I felt peace with this piece and hope that it will continue to provide me with this feeling for years to come.
