MERCY MOMENT ⬇️⬇️ aka what happened this session
heres a sketch of a scene:
we set up camp for the night. mercy goes to fall asleep and is stuck in that sleep paralysis type state. she can feel that emerson isnt beside her, and eventually feels herself being dragged. she opens her eyes and sees anita dragging her by her legs into the swamp until she stops. Anita pulls mercy up by her hair and starts lecturing her, telling her she will not he ignored, how ungrateful she is after everything anita had done for her, how shes lost track of the revenge she wants, and how she will be punished.
the old woman from the farm we helped recently is on her knees sobbing and praying for the devil to release her, for her to be able to go home. Mercy asks why she’s here. Anita says mercy has to kill her, thats her punishment. mercy protests saying the woman is innocent, that she helped them, and that she was sorry she wont ignore anita again. she also asks where emerson is. anita gets angry at the mention of emerson and starts to yell at mercy. Emersons body rises out of the lake trapped in water, anita says that if mercy doesnt kill the woman she will hurt emerson. mercy panics and says if she kills the woman the train will come, meaning she will have to face her father.
anita says thats the point, and thats her real punishment. she says if mercy wont kill the woman, she will, and proceeds to slit the old woman’s throat. mercy crawls over to her hands on the woman’s neck as she tries to stop the bleeding, repeating over and over that shes sorry. the woman is dying no matter how hard mercy tries to hold in the blood, and the train whistle blows.
The train appears and mercy looks up to meet the eyes of her father, who is looking in shock. Anita pulls mercy up by her hair again and slams her into the barrier that keeps her from entering the train, as well as reaching her father. Mercy is crying, anita is screaming at her that shes a dissapointment, how she wasted her gifts for nothing, how it wont matter, how she needs to look at her father and see how shes dissapointed him, how shes a monster.
Mercy cries and yells, looking at her father and repeating that shes sorry, shes sorry and shes scared and she wants to go home, that she misses him and she wont do any of this again and she wants him to save her. He is crying and trying to comfort her, saying its okay, daddy is here he will help her theyll go home and everything will be okay. Anita is still holding mercys head with her hand smashing her against the barrier.
Mercy’s dad grabs a lantern from the train and smashes it against the barrier. it cracks open and shatters partially as he shoves his hand thru, telling anita to get her hands off his daughter. at this point the party catches up and fires a shot at anita, making her let go of mercy. at this point the barrier repairs itself, slicing off mercy’s dad’s arm in the process as the train and anita dissapear. mercy collapses onto the ground, emerson weakly now out of anita’s grasp crawls from the lake towards her, and the party helps them both back to camp.
