OMG is that Fitz Fortune?
You haven’t done your research, darling. I’m Fitz Fortune, of course. Just as big as that guy -’ he gestured at Elvis - ‘back in the old twentieth century. The printing department must be a bit behind; I expect there’ll be posters of me up there any day now.’
‘Fitz Fortune?’
‘The one and only, baby!’

What is Goofy’s full name?
The Occam’s razor answer, the simplest answer with the least amount of assumptions is that his name is “Goofy Goof.” That would make sense considering the evidence we’ve seen in A Goofy Movie. His son’s name is Max Goof, the principal addresses him over the phone as Mr. Goof, and Bobby at the end of the movie calls Max “that Goof kid” in a line that was clearly not directed well because Paulie Shore forgot that his character was supposed to be one of Max’s friends. The point it, it’s pretty certain that their surname is Goof.
But then the MAP throws everything out the window
This map belongs to
Walter P. Goofey
Benjamin Goofey
all Goofeys
So now their last name s Goofey, spelled with an E for some reason. It’s not “A Goofey Movie,” it’s “A Goofy Movie.” Nobody has ever referred to Mickey’s dog friend as “Goofey,” I have no idea where this is coming from. If his last name is Goofey or Goofy or Goof, any of those, it would imply that he has a normal human first name; look at his family; Walter, Benjamin, Maximilian. All the other characters in Disney canon have real human names; Mickey, Donald, Minnie, Daisy, Pete, Huey, Dewey, Louie, but then he’s just Goofy. That has to be a nickname! He is either Mr. Goof or Mr. Goofey, either of which could conceivably earn the nickname Goofy. But then what is Goofy’s first name? Simple answer: the old cartoons refers to him as George, case closed. Wait. George... Geef? GEEF?!?! Was there a bumper crop at the E farm this season? Disney’s just passing around Es like its nobody’s business. Whet e weste ef perfectly geed vewels! Some sources call him Goofus D. Dawg, others call him G.G. “Goofy” Goof, which confirms the nickname thing, but still doesn’t explain the first two initials!
Who is this man? And don’t give me some Watsonian explanation about how he changes his name in universe for tax purposes or some “Woah Deep Disney Conspiracy, Man,” don’t gimme none of that. I want a Doylist explanation; why are the writers obfuscating his identity? What don’t they want to give him a definitive first and last name like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and all the rest of Walt Disney’s copyright killing bastards? What real-world purpose does it serve to be ambiguous about the branding of one of your staple characters?
